Hi Laura!
Welcome to our community!! First of all, I am so very sorry for all that you have gone through and for your little girl as well.
Yes! There is a connection with Lyme and Autism for many. There is enough of a percentage of Autistic children being helped by Lyme treatment that I would choose to do the treatments if I had a child with Autism. Many only see an improvement in symptoms, but some actually see healing.
Unfortunately, the ELISA is the worst test to be done for these diseases though. The Western Blot isn't much better as it misses 50% of those that actually have the disease. It also only tests for 4 or 5 of the 300 strains that can be found world wide. We don't have any idea how many of those strains actually cause disease in humans yet - more studies need to be done.
It's quite typical for someone's symptoms to increase or come on and not go away after a stressful situation such as you faced. That's one of the 'hallmarks' of this disease. You also show many of the symptoms of Lyme disease, and these infections can be passed by not only fleas, but any kind of biting fly, sand flies, mites, chiggers, bed bugs and even spiders in some cases.
If you haven't yet, please do read through our "New to Lyme? Start here!" thread as it's packed full of really important information about
these diseases and more. Symptoms lists (as Lyme doesn't usually travel alone), detoxing instructions, questions that you can ask any doctor that you are seeking treatment from, helpful pdf's and more.
