My First LLMD appointment

Hello all,

Today I had my first LLMD appointment. I'm from MA and heard some mixed reviews about the doctor in Watertown but I think it ended up being an over all good experience.

It had it's pro's and cons. The con being the co pay was $500 and my insurance doesnt start reimburing you until after $800.

The doctor looked at by blood work and said it was obvious I had lyme and that it was one of the

first cases she treated where lyme was without a doubt an issue.

The doctor also told me that I had even though the test were negative for babesia and bartenolla

that I was displaying most common symptoms for the two so she decided to treat me for those as well.

Currently I am taking Cefdinir and Rifampin 2x a day for 60 days.

Then the doctor said in 2 weeks to start Metronidazole with 1 tablet twice a day for 1 DAY ONLY then the same with the next week.

Then after two weeks of the 1 dose a week to start the 2x a day every day.

I thought this was kind of strange but she said because it would cause mass die off of all the bacteria and I need to adjust.

The doctor also told me the usual take probiotics, epsom salt baths, and take this herbal supplement called BioDetox.

My stomach is already killing me from the first dose of medicine but hey at least I am being treated.


What do you guys think of my first LLMD appointment. Approval? Disapproval? Comments? Concerns?

If all fails I have a back up appointment in January in RhodeIsland but I really hope this

works because I need a job to start paying of these student loans and getting my life started.

I also just had my first LLMD appointment last Thursday, and I've also been wondering how my appointment stacked up to others. I'm obviously no expert, but at least we can share experiences.

My doctor is near Tampa, FL. I also had to pay a bit out of pocket, but I was just happy that my military Tricare insurance covered anything at all. My cost was a couple hundred for special blood work.

My doc also said it was obvious I had Lyme, and as he did an exam he pointed out what was causing each symptom. Some symptoms were Lyme, and others were two co-infections that I can't remember the name of.

I got so much info from the doctor, and learned so much! He told me about most labs using a strain of Lyme from 1981 to test with, which doesn't work often. He explained how Lyme reacts to antibiotics by going into cyst form which requires other special antibiotics to treat.

Basically, I started on Doxycycline and Flagyl each twice a day, and a probiotic. After a few weeks of that I'm supposed to start IV antibiotics.

I started these oral antibiotics on Saturday. My pain seems to be spiking today in my joints (mainly wrists, knees, and feet), eyes, and head. Does this mean it's working? Cause I'm immobilized, and I hope it's worth it.

My doctor gave me zipsor for pain. It does help a good bit for the headache and eye pain, and it makes me feel relaxed, but it also makes me very sleepy. I don't like to sleep all day, I already miss enough of my family's activities!

That's the rundown on my experience. I wonder why my antibiotic treatment is so different from yours. My doctor did say that the oral antibiotics I'm on are more for the co-infections, and the IV antibiotics would be for the Lyme later on. He said that was because I've been sick for 2 years without treatment.

I don't know how much my experience can help, but there it is. Hey, didn't it feel great to talk to a doctor that knew exactly what you were going through?! My doctor was finishing my sentences for me. I started having one of my crying episodes because I was so excited, scared, happy, scared... too much information and emotion!

Hey Barngirl did you ever have any stomach issues when you first started Cefdinir? My first dose was fine but the second one made my stomach very upset for about the whole day. Im hoping its just my stomach getting used to the new meds? I never had any problems taking doxy
