Well as you know, we are a product of the food we eat and our daily environment. This effects our body chemistry, thus our brains. Our body probably perceives winter as a somewhat stressful time to (for those who actually have winter). In the past, winter was not always survivable.
Then throw in pathogens which also changes our body/brain chemistry and this wont make the outcome any better.
You dont hear or see wild animals much on dark or wet days either. The hibernating bears in the cold states got it all figured out!
For the record, since I'm feeling better all around, winter is now a little easier for me than it was during the days of my lyme "Abyss".
I've made a few posts on this and the subject of daylight. I've never tried "fake day lights" as they seem to time consuming to use. I lack motivation in dreary winter weather but don't really get depressed from it. I'm very much an outdoor person in the summer and get very energized from it.
I live in the coldest area of the lower 48, however, our February usually has less overcast than November thru Jan, so I'm over the worst of the dreariness - and my motivation has finally picked up. Just waiting for the thermostat to "pick up", which will happen soon. I really dress in layers now, the cold doesn't help my muscles at all going to work in the AM - thats the worst part. On real cold sunny weekends- I've layed/vegged in the sunlight on the living room floor, it felt pretty good!
The older I get, the less winter outdoor stuff I feel like doing. The last three winters were easy for me, this year had way to many below zero mornings. The coldest cold days I'll never get used to, that said, summer always arrives eventually. Heat kills me, so the deep south is not an option. South west costs too much full time. Guess I'm stuck here. The desert south west life is looking better every year for a winter get away, not for summer though.
