Ok so I feel I finally have some help. I go to a ortho dr today to look at my arm. (hurt it lifting weights over summer etc) I informed him that I have lymes at least think I do. Have symptoms, tested slightly positive, went on meds for 6 wks etc but still don't feel right. He got all crazy and said his 14 yr old son had it. Affect his knees and he had to do surgery on him. Said he put him on IV meds (can't remember name of kind) for 6 wks. Totally cured him. No affects at all anymore. Told me I should do it. Said he feels very strongly that the IV method would help. Said lymes can hide in your fluids, and tissues etc where oral meds arent' the best. Said he'll set it up. Sounds good but I have to have some type of line in my arm for 6 wks. I don't like that idea. He was very interested and made me feel good knowing a dr in my area has some experience. What say you all on the IV med treatment?

Tough call but I'm glad you found someone that understood. I'm going to retitle your post so you might get an answer. Drs. push IV if insurance will cover it and the latest ILADS results encourage IV abx over long term oral. I was very hesitant and did not want to pursue that route so I didn't.

thats what Im unsure of. I was on doxy for 6 wks and made great improvements but still just dont feel right but not horrible. Do you think a larger dose would be good? I am a big guy 6'6 and weight about 245. I was only on 200mg of doxy a day. I'm thinking that was not enough.

Well, you are right about 200 mgs a day not being enough!! That's only enough to stop the bacteria from replicating, not kill any off. IV abx have such serious possible consequences that I would suggest those only as a "last resort" thing. I would suggest herbals long before suggesting IV abx.

Any person must have at least 400 mgs of Doxy a day to kill these complex bacteria, with 600 mgs a day (divided into 3 doses) being used frequently, according to Dr. Joseph Burrascano.

It's nice that you found a doc that understands the seriousness of these diseases, and if he would be willing to prescribe you oral abx at the proper doses, then go for it! Otherwise, I would suggest that you find a LLMD that will use the oral abx first.

I also am on only 200 mds of Doxy/ day for a month.

Hi Christy - be very careful - I took 200 mgs for 10 days when it was caught 'early' and became very very ill years later. It was not a new infection. I lived in middle of nowhere and moved to the city shortly after the bite.

Hi verg, I would say the dr is telling you the truth. If I had found this guy when I was first diagnosed I would not probably still be struggling like I am today. Find out what he wants to put you on.

I would love to know what iv abx as well. I thinking of doing all natural but want to check out all my options.

sorry so long for reporting.  I just started an Iv of 2mg a day of rosephin.  It is already kicking my butt.  I have terrible diarrhea.  I need to discuss this with the doc.  The doc put me on this because this is what cured his son.  He and family went on vacation to Connecticut. (we are all from SD) His son became ill upon return with bruising and rashes, bad knee issues.  After testing they found lymes.  He put his own son on this treatment and has had no issues since.  It has been a couple yrs.

Im also on Rocephin (ceftriaxone) and the side affects start off bad, but do get better. This is a one strong ABX and the second time I took it, it completely wiped me out. The third time, it almost killed me. Some tricks I found to dealing with it:

Probiotics when you have diarrhea
Enemas when you are constipated or feel you are not detoxing correctly
An extra 1-2 hours of sleep
this ABX zaps your energy and minerals (for me) supplements were mandatory.

If you have any question about the ABX or PICC (IV) lines let us know. This forum has a ton of combined experience using them.

I wanted to mentioned that this ABX is great for Lyme in the blood, but is poor for Lyme in bone, cartilage, dense tissue or biofilm. Its usually combined with other ABXs (or herbs) to help eradicate the disease thats bunkered down in your body.

thanks for info. Doc said I wouldn't feel the pick line but I think I do. Have some discomfort in neck upper shoulder area. Not bad but does feel like pressure or something. Is this common?
