I am two days away from completing thirty days on IV Rocephin.

My symptoms when starting treatment included a wicked headache, back pain, rib pain, brain fog, and numbness on the left side. After a week or so these were all drastically reduced and I primarily experienced leg and knee pain. Now the leg and knee pain have let up and I am right back where I started. Is this typical?

Also, how long do the antibiotics stay in your system after stopping treatment?

How long have you been infected? I have chronic Lyme, been sick for 15 yrs and just got diagnosed in November so my treatment is ongoing. I hear a lot of others say they have relapses when they finish treatment. Everybody is different.

I would suggest you read the first thread for new to Lyme, it has a lot of great info.

Sorry to hear you are back where you started, hope you feel better soon. And others will reply and give you some better insight.

It depends on the half-life of the medication. Some medications have a half-life of 6 hours while others last in the body for days.

As for being right back where you started, it sometimes happens that you feel good for a few days and then you have a setback. Some people have this in cycles but the setbacks are less severe and happen less often until one day they don't come back. I myself have seen two different cycles in my symptoms. I am infected with Lyme, Bartonella, and EBV so these two cycles that I notice could be from two of the infections that I have.

I was diagnosed in December. I am so blessed that my PCP was willing to test me. I came up CDC negative but on my IgM I was reactive on band 41. I had a lumbar puncture with the same results. He had a PICC line put in within days of getting the results. I have no idea when I got infected, but symptoms started in October. I am hoping with all my heart that I started treatment early enough. My MRI showed meningitis and I tested negative for all co-infections.

I have been lurking on this board for a couple months now and am so grateful for everything I have learned here. It's an amazing source of information, hope and support.

I am hoping that maybe the last place the Lyme leaves is the first place it appeared.

While many find that their first symptoms are the last to leave, please be careful 'assuming' that this is true for you with you having had only that short run of abx. Honestly it sounds like more of a herx than you nearing the end of your treatments.

These bacteria come out to replicate in the body once every 3- 6 weeks, so 4 weeks of abx may only catch a small amount of the bacteria - if this is the case, then you would also experience a relapse if you were to go off of your treatments too soon.

If you don't wish to stay on the abx any longer, please consider herbs or other natural treatments. Many find that they work just as well for treating their infections.

Also please be aware that the blood tests for co-infection are less reliable than it is for Lyme disease. It's always safer to go by your symptoms.
