Hey all, first time posting.

I was diagnosed with lyme by an Ontario LLND in August 2013. Also IGenex IgM positive, Canadian ELISA negative. Started treatment with said LLND in September but I have recently stopped as my improvements were NIL.

Anywho, looking to get treatment down in Plattsburg, NY. I have been trying to figure out how I am going be paying for all of this and I came across the Trillium Drug Benefit.

From my understanding, they cover your drug costs after 4% of your household income, no questions asked.
Has anyone had any experience with this?

I do live on my own and I am a poor recent graduate, but I am worried because my Canadian ELISA came back negative I will get denied. I will have my doctor back home filling out the prescriptions.

Good for you for finding this. We have had to re-mortgage our home to have our daughter treated in the US, but it has been worth it. We see Dr P in Buffalo.

Also good for you for finding an Ontario Dr to write prescriptions. Any Dr I approached said that they would not re-write; because they would ultimately be responsible for adverse reactions etc. Besides, they felt that lyme was a bogus diagnosis anyway.  Our daughter's ELISA was negative, but there was one IND lyme-specific Igenex band.  Bartonella was Igenex positive.  Our PCP didn't even think to run bartonella.

We used CanadaDrugs who will dispense on NY prescriptions.

Our daughter is now on Buhner's herbal bartonella/babesia protocol and doing wonderfully. I kind of wish we had gone the herbal route in the beginning, but I was skeptical.

Welcome to the forum! I'm sorry to hear you have to deal with this infection after graduating, but I'm glad you were able to finish your schooling. I wish you the best in getting better. How long do you think you've had it?

Thanks Rowingmom. I have heard about canadadrugs.com and that is always an option need be.
I have gained a lot of interest in herbal protocols especially Cowden's and Buhner's. I still want to give antibiotics a shot and hopefully they kick it. If they don't I am not hesitating to go hebal.

Garden Peace thanks for the welcoming. I was going to write a "my story" post but I can give a short synopsis here:

Thanksgiving 2008 I got really sick all of a sudden at my cottage. Weeks after I developed anxiety, depression, OCD and chronic fatigue. Lived with it and went to film school, where my symptoms gradually got worse over time. Graduated spring 2012, started working and new symptoms arose. Feb 2013 after a cold winter run, my body became numb and this is where all my neuro symptoms started. You know the rest, I went down that windy road looking for the problem. All the doctors and neurologists said I was crazy.

Finally diagnosed w/ lyme, babs, and bart in August 2013 after half a year of searching (or 5 years since I was bit).

I left out a couple things in my original post...

I know I will still be responsible for the doctor's fees but hopefully the antibiotics would be covered by the Trillium Drug Program.

Also I really didn't as this but my main question is the program really a no-questions-asked thing? Will they cover my Abx (after deductible of course) regardless of my condition?

Not many Canadians on here actually. I am from Manitoba, I made friends with someone from Nova Scotia. That's all I know of. We are both consulting with an LLND in Calgary, taking a modified Cowden protocol.

I know similar program exists in Manitoba, based on your income. But I never looked into it fully without having a diagnoses in Canada. I am CDC positive so I was pretty sure I could do it, but not sure. Good luck!

Hi there,

I am from Ontario too.  Also seeing an LLND.  Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to your question.  Have you thought of asking your LLND?  Perphaps they would know the answer to your question.

If you find an answer to your question, please post back.  I am sure that others will have the same question in the future.

Just a note to spread the word about the Lyme Savers Bursary. Have you heard of it? There is a foundation called Lyme Savers that has created a bursary to help those with Lyme Disease to cover costs of treatment, etc. There is a fairly straight forward application. I'll attach the application form to this message. You can read more about it here:

Given your financial status, you may be able to get some help from there.
