with antibiotics; fatigue and joint pain decreasing, stomach aches/sore throats still around.

So my son has been on antibiotics now for 7 weeks and he is improving, thank the Lord!

I see much less fatigue in him and much less complaints of joint and muscle pains. Lately no dizziness or tingling in hands and feet either (or at least not as much at all in the last few weeks especially).


But the symptoms that are persisting still since antibiotic treatment started are:
stomach aches (everyday for months, usually in mornings, but sometimes later)
and what seems like an increase in sore throats, not when swallowing but at his sides of neck (glands?)
(occasional headache, (forehead and face area) too, and general not feeling well at times still there too).

He's been on amoxicillin for all 7 weeks and now azithromycin for the past almost two weeks too.

His Dr. added the azithromycin to prevent resistance, and in case of Bart. she said.

any thoughts on why the stomach aches keep on coming while other symptoms are decreasing?
or why now sore throats, when that wasn't much of a symptom until the past couple of months (other symptoms besides sore throat started last Oct. 30th)


could these be Bartonella? which hasn't had antibiotics targeting it as long?

she's checking his strep titers too (results not back yet), so maybe that? although wouldn't 7 weeks of amoxicillin help that.


Just wondering out loud and know you all have lots of knowledge and experience so thought I'd ask. Thanks!

thanks for the reply Dtav, it does help. Your daughter's situation is similar, b/c of how you said the majority of symptoms are leaving except some.

After I wrote my post I also started thinking maybe I'm just not being patient enough, since I suppose 7 weeks of treatment isn't really that long in this game.
It's just interesting how some things (thank God, and knock on wood) have lessened so much or even left all together, but some symptoms remain strong as ever.

We're waiting on test results for strep titers, and celiac. I should once and for all try cutting out all gluten and see if that helps the tummy. For my son I guess celiac could be there, but just thinking out loud here, if it is celiac why would some celiac symptoms (i.e. joint pain and fatigue) be getting so much better/disappearing, but not the tummy.

My gut is that there is Bart, but he hasn't been tested for it, although like you mentioned they can be false negative anyway.
