successful bartonella treatments?

please tell me how if you have successfully treated bartonella. What did you use and what was the process like?

If you read my other thread I did not like the rifampin!

I am still unclear if treating bartonella means one HAS to go through massive anxiety flare ups?

Did anyone treat bartonella and not go through massive herxing?

I have read various links on what to do to treat bartonella but I am looking for personal stories of what people have done that worked for them- and to see if there is a way to treat it without the massive anxiety flare ups.

I have a phone consult with the nurse at my llmd's today- so I will ask her- and I see my doctor in 2 weeks so I will ask him too. But I want to know what you all have experienced.

I did Levaquin 500mg a day for a month, but I don't recommend that. It's usually too hard on the body. I am fortunate to know how to minimize its side effects.

I treated naturally with just Houttuynia, did have quite a herx for 2 or 3 weeks, but the infection is gone.

wow the Houttuynia sounds interesting- traveler- how long did you use it for and how did you know the bartonella was gone?

Traveller Ijust googled Houttuynia bartonella and your thread came up explaining how you made it into tea and took it for 9 months- so it took 9 months to clear? Still, can you say how you knew it was gone?

Believe me, even if all I still had to deal with is that kind of pain, I'd be on here and other Lyme sites still looking for treatments!!! Starting about 4 - 6 months before I had treatment for Bartonella, it was impossible for me to stand for more than 7 - 10 minutes due to the pain in my legs/feet. It would literally start to cause me to pass out -then I'd sit down quickly to stop the excruciating pain. And talk about psychiatric issues! Whew! And anger!! smhair I've never experienced such anger than what was totally unprovoked during that time. Scared even me. I also experienced things like paranoia, depression, anxiety through the roof, and more.

I had started my Lyme treatment in January of 2010 and my Bartonella treatment in March - 3 months later and stayed on both of those treatments through 2010. A total of 1 year for Lyme treatment and 9 months for Bartonella. Believe me, it felt like a LOT longer!! LOL!

How do I know for sure that I've healed? I've been through major stress since completely all of my treatments and still, I have no symptoms of either one of those infections to this day - 2 years and 5 months later. I'm as sure as anyone can be at this point in time.

TRAV...can you describe your leg pain?

I have terrible shin pain, mostly on my left shin..this was one of my very early symptoms that started over a year ago. Lately its been bad. mostly after ive been on my feet at work all day. It feels like my muscle is separating from my bone or something. Also feels like my bone is telescoping into itself...does that make sense???? is this bart?

My pain has almost always changed around. Sometimes it would feel like the bones had shattered, especially if they had been bumped or if I had to step down on the floor or step hard; sometimes it felt like the muscles and tendons were separating from the bones; or that my shin bone (tibia) was being forced up into my upper leg bone (femur)- like it was too long or something; or that the top end of the shin bone (tibia) was about to explode.

I'm sorry. It's kind of hard for me to remember the exact pain, as it brings back a bit of PTSD type of reaction in me. It was such a horrible state to be forced to live in for years.

I would say that no matter how you describe your leg pain, if it's pretty bad, Bartonella should be considered seriously.

The beat bartonella treatments are usually dual intracellular drug antibiotics, with Plaquenil.

The Fluorquinolones are the most active against bartonella and some people can knock it out in 1-3 months with these drugs. that is cipro, levaquin, and factive to name a few. But of course there are health risks using these kinds of antibiotics that include tendon rupture and permanent nerve damage. Some say they take magnesium and have no issue but I didn't take these.

Next most active is rifampin. Rifampin is more difficult to tolerate, can elevate liver enzymes, and cause fatigue. But 4-6 months of treatment should completely get rid of Bart.

The next best choice is bactrim or septra. This has also proven to be very effective but some people have allergies, also this drug could be hard on the kidneys so need to drink lots of water with this medication .

Tetracyclines and macrolides are other good options for bartonella. If you combine a tetracycline and macrolide that will also work.

The natural treatments include Buhners protocol which I believe he said treat for 1 month. Include a big long list of herbs. But Houttuynia is one of the best herbs to use for bartonella.

Also A-Bart of the Byron white formulas is also good against bartonella.

I treated bartonella with no massive herx. I used the rifampin and for me it just made the sumptoms quiet for bartonella.

The past 2 months I have been treating with septra DS, minocycline, and A-Bart. I take Houttuynia sometimes as well. Seems to be working!

A-Bart - do you think it's worth a shot?

Chapelle, I think the A-Bart has worked pretty well. But I also used the Houttuynia and minocycline + septra DS . So I hit bartonella in many ways. I also did a month of rifampin. So I'm not sure which was the exact medicine that helped but I think they all did! I don't have any bartonella symptoms anymore at all, but I'm still going to keep treating just in case a few of them are still left.

I haven't tried the AL complex. But I am considering it. Do you think it works for you?

I just got my Red Zinger tea in the mail too! I got 10 boxes of 20 bags so going to drink that regularly. Apparently there is someone that treated his Lyme completely with it!

I've been on ALCOMPLEX FOR OVER A MONTH NOW.
can you take a Bart with AL Complex? With houttyunia tea? With abx?

Hi Shelly.

I actually didn't ask if you can mix them or not. I assume it is best to take it on an empty stomach away from other medicines or herbs and that is what I have been doing.

But ya on an empty stomach I would take the A-Bart and then like an hour later I would take the Houttuynia, so in that way yes I think they can be mixed as long as they are taken apart.

Please check with your doctor or practitioner. No need to take chances that you may be taking something that shouldn't be combined with any one of the things you mentioned. No one needs a trip to the emergency room!

Im new here. Im only aware of Houttunyia Tincture.
What source of houttunyia tea and how much each day? Did you drink?

This old post is good reading. I think it confirms what I feel about my current symptom flare or herx - that bart is trying to destroy me again. Been having some awful joint, bone, and muscle pain. Left shoulder feeling like something is going to break or tear lose. Right hip aching when I lay on that side. Aching pain in my forearm bones and more. Killing bart ain’t easy.

Sorry your having a rough time with Bart WBF and Carly , hang in there.

Bart is a tough one to fight but we will make it, just have to keep trying things and keep pushing forward.
