Hey guys - I am being very careful with my diet - avoiding gluten and sugar (and some dairy - just cant live without cheese, LOL)

anyway, I am always on the run - and I have been grabbing the healthiest cereal bars I can find, but they still have 6 grams of sugar in them. I seriously need grab and go snacks!!!

Does anyone have a good cereal bar or grab and go snack to recommend? Besides fruit - bc when I have to take my medicine the fruit doesn't coat my stomach enough and it hurts when taking my antibiotics.

Any advice would be appreciated - thanks!

gardenpeace - I vaguely remember you mentioning some type of chocolate bars??

I just grabbed one now bc I am on my way to my LLMD appointment!!

you could always try making your own? I have a couple recipes that pretty much just require a food processor - not sure how much sugar is in them but it's all from dried fruit and stuff. I feel like your best bet is probably something that's mostly nuts?

I usually keep some larabars on hand. They are just fruit and nuts (and a couple varieties have chocolate chips). I think there is still quite a bit of sugar from the fruit, but they really are convenient!

My nutritionist recommended lara bars for me -some of them do have high sugar but it is natural sugar like in dates, etc. I also eat oatmeal in disposable paper cups. I literally just pour hot water in/oatmeal and go.

Is it primarily your stomach hurting that is making you look for alternatives or is there a yeast/other issue?

Kind bars have 5G of sugar and are gluten free.

There is one called Simply Protein Bar that has 3G of sugar that I buy in chocolate peanut butter.

You can buy both at most health food stores.  I buy on Amazon.com

If I did mention one, I forgot. My brain hasn't been too dependable. My doc sells a couple of brands, so I'll have to look at those next time I go. I know he wouldn't sell any with sugar. Sorry.

Making your own snack bars is really fun, but can be costly. I have tried making them, and although they are tasty and lower in sugar, they ended up costing a small fortune. There is a company where you can actually customize the bars yourself. R u familiar with it? If not, I can get the name if you want it :-)

Lymebabe- The Morrison Center is in Manhattan.

Chapelle- The cocommune bar from Designs for Health is so delicious and only 1g of sugar. It's not super filling but if you enjoy a Mounds bar then you will love this.

I haven't been on here too much either and wondering how you and ToddPaul are doing?

ToddPaul, where have you been going for treatment? If I recall you and Winston are both in the NY/LI area. I have been considering trying out a new doc but haven't made up my mind yet. Ideas?

I'm doing alright, just trying to keep positive about things, just started with a new doctor yesterday, so I'm just continuing on this journey of health ;),,, how have you been?

Hey guys - looks like this is turning into a "catch up" thread - love it!!

lymebabe - yes, the Morrison center is in NYC - I see an excellent Dr there and three others from the forum besides Winston have followed up with my referrals.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I will definitely look into the lara bars. Toddpaul, that sounds yummy to me! =)
I tried the ones at the office today and I almost puked they were so gross, LOL

Dannarahn, how are you? so you are still unhappy with your doc? did you ever look into the Morrison center?

I will be posting a new thread on my progress tonight, and about my LLMD appointment today.

Good luck at the docs today! At this point in time, after reading so much on this forum, I think I know more than my Lyme doc, lol....
Seriously, I am considering going to the Morrison Center. Can u email me the name of the doc there you like? My email changed, so use the newest, not the one you used in the past. Thanks!

Winston, yes I went to Sponaugle. I was there five weeks. They saved my life. I am not well but much better. I was literally crawling on the floor when I decided I was going. Last week I actually ordered a book from the library (for the first time reading anything else than this forum!), I started playing the piano again and I replaced a broken string on my harp. Even though I am losing my teaching job I got a part time job in a grocery store cutting vegetables for the salad bar. Just the fact that I am going to have ANY job is awesome. The pay is awful but I believe it will shake out one way or another.

Winston- Long time no see. Glad to hear you're improving. Hopefully that will continue with the new doc. Did you get a positive Lyme test yet?

Dannarahn- Yes I'm on LI in Western Nassau. I'm not seeing any docs but was on the Synergy Protocol which helped some but I plateaued so I'm trying something else now. Sounds like the Morrison Center may be good so let us know if you end up going. I know Dr. S has his limitations but I don't know of anyone else that's decent and affordable.

toddpaul - I just ordered the bars!! but from ebay, bc I was able to get only six. if I ordered from amazon I would have had to get a whole case. gotta make sure I like them first!

Lymebabe- i'm glad to hear that you were able to get great treatment there, I've been thinking about maybe going one day, just reading he's info gives me hope there could be a cure to this. It's just really an expensive place.

Toddpaul- Yea I actually did receive a positive cdc with the lab in CA. It was a hard pill to swallow, I already knew the doctors where wrong,, it was hard to accept what had taken place over the last 3 months, I'm really trying to find myself smh

Can't wait to see more responses on this. I too need quick things before going into work. Normally I grab the KIND bars as previously mentioned they have a really good dark chocolate and sea salt one I believe is 5 or 6g of sugar.

I own a vitamin store and by far the best selling bars are the Quest bars. They are low in sugar but very chewy and are a bit rough on my stomach. Other people seem to be fine with them though.
