As for me, I believe that the diet changes (little to no processed foods), drinking plenty of water to keep toxins flushed, being sure to get enough exercise, and keeping an eye on other bodily functions will all help us to avoid a relapse. That includes taking measures to avoid another tick attachment/insect bite. Healthy immune systems and a body that has no other stressors can beat these infections if they happen. My husband and children are my examples.
The stress that I have had since healing from Lyme includes:
Having my father-in-law live with us the last 3 months of his life with Alzheimer's - what an intense and blessed experience.
The day my FIL passed, we had twin goats born, which meant 5 feedings a day and milking the mamma twice a day by myself as hubby was busy dealing with funeral arrangements/bereaved family members and family coming in to stay with us for the funeral.
While that was on-going, my brother had kicked my Mom out of the home she helped him to buy, so she moved cross country (by herself) and I had to rent a place for her to live. She arrived two days after the funeral. Then I was to watch over her, taking her grocery shopping each week and having her here on a regular basis. Now that may not seem too stressful, but for a mother and daughter that have never got along well (even when I was a child) it was pretty stressful. She never bothered to learn about
my infections or why I needed to rest even after I had healed from the infections.
Then my mom chose to move from Arkansas to Calif to be with her sister. I was the only one she had there that knew how to load a moving van. I was also the only one who was capable of unloading the moving van once we got there - I had one 'almost' helper (they slammed the couch against the wall - with my fingers in between the wall and couch).
By the time I made it back to my home in Arkansas - my adrenals were crashing again and taking my thyroid down with it. I also have intestinal allergies that are worse now than they have ever been - all due to the stress -
BUT I still have no symptoms of tick-borne infections!!!
Woo hoo!!!
Happy dance time!!!!!!
So I believe that we can have Lyme be gone for good - but we do have to take extra good care of ourselves, and take plenty of precautions to avoid exposure.
