Starting tetracycline soon. Advice please:)

My doctor switched me to tetracycline SR (slow release) because my stomach could not handle regular doxy.

For the first 10 days I start with 500 mg twice a day, then 750 mg twice a day for twenty days. I am then off of it for 2 weeks before doing more.

My understanding is that I have to wait 20 minutes to eat after i take it... I guess this antibiotic is a little different from doxy and mino because you can take those with food. Anyways, this worries me because doxy destroyed my stomach because I was misinformed and didn't take it with food.... Hope I will be OK because it is slow release?

Anyone ever take this antibiotic before. I am really scared to start treatment again, my stomach has just finally healed.

So I just need to wait 20 mins before I eat, correct? Even with SR? Do you know if it is easier on the stomach compared to doxy? Sorry for all the questions, I don't want to take advantage of your expertise.

By the way, I didn't end up ordereding it from Canada.. Told my doc I wasn't comfortable with it and he was really nice about it. Instead I am getting it from a compound pharmacy in NY called rye beach pharmacy. They seem legit. Just need to pay more... But at least it isn't 900 dollars!

Tetracycline can maka you photosensitive. It's better to wear protective clothing when going out in the sun, and to wear sunblock where your skin is unprotected.

Tetra is a good antibiotic. Although it's not as strong as doxy it can achieve much higher blood concentrations because higher doses can be tolerated making it more effective in later stages. It's also recommended that you use amantadine or plaquenil with it to lower PH and help penetration. Im on it in the fall/winter and it is much easier on the stomach. I even took it without food and was fine.
