Hubby=lyme or Alzheimers?

My husband has had personality changes over the last year or two. Unprovoked anger, when he used to be the most easy going guy. Forgetfulness such as appt's, what he went to store for, or what he's just told me. A few bouts of vertigo and some aches and pains. His mom passed away from alzheimer's 7 years ago.
Today our LLND emailed with his egenix test results. Bands 31, 34, and 39 indeterminate, band 41+++
I'm kind of in denial about all of this and want your opinions if you think this is lyme or alzheimer's?
Of course he doesn't think there is anything wrong. Dr is not sure if we should treat or not. Any ideas?

Just my opinion. He has several important bands that are indeterminate. That doesn't mean negative. If they didn't see at least a light line, they would have called it negative.

Also, many co infections can gave neuro effects.

Alzheimer's has no hope for a cure. Lyme does. There have been studies where Lyme was found in 70% of Alzheimer's brains. And Alzheimer's can't be definitely diagnosed until after death,so you will never know for sure if it is Alzheimer's.

No question what I would do. Treat what is treatable. There are never any guarantees, but the stakes are much too high not to give him every chance.

Make sure he is tested for co infections too!

Thanks for the input. Thats what my gut is telling me. I've been treating for lyme, bart and babs. I read lyme can be sexual transmitted I wonder if bart and babs follow along?

I'm not sure. The whole idea of Lyme being sexually transmitted is scary enough! My husband hasn't been tested. Of course, since I've been sick there has been little chance of transmission! My neck and headaches are bad enough, but my muscles all hurt when touched. Nobody in my family even tries to hug me for fear of hurting me. Sad!

If he has Lyme, you won't know how he got it, so don't blame yourself!

I would definitely get treatment. Like AML said, a lot of Alzheimer's autopsies show Lyme infections. If I only showed one band positive I would get treatment.

Thanks for the replies. !st I have to convince him to get treatment, then figure out what treatment since his Ins won't cover my LLND.

Picture--if you have him read a few of the stories about people who have been through so much with Lyme disease, it may spur him to action. For example there is a thread just a few below this titled "Beating Lyme Disease article" which shows how far this disease can go if not taken seriously. I know that my hubby would have been exactly the same way a year ago before we knew what was going on. If you need more articles, let me know-I have kept some that are also more science based which 'spoke' to my hubby. Good luck!

kgirl67- thanks for pointing out that thread. I read Katrina's book and listen to her lyme radio show weekly. Just wondering was it you or your son who got the drug induced hepatitis? And what abx caused it?

Razzle- Great article I needed to hear that. Wouldn't it be great if treatment could stop these awful symptoms for him.

Tomorrow morning we are off on 4 day camping/fishing trip to Idaho. I think the 7 hour car trip should give me some time to work my magic and convince him to try some kind of treatment:) Hopefully, I packed enough super deet to keep the ticks away (please pray). The amazing thing is 3 months ago I was so sick all could do was go from the bed to couch and back. Jeez now I'm camping...don't worry I've googled nearest hotels just in case I need a detox bath!

If it were my spouse, I would start them on Pectasol-C powder 3 times a day.

The 31, 34 and 39 bands are all highly specific for Lyme disease - and the bacteria that causes them (the Lyme bacteria) had to get into his body to cause such a reaction. I would encourage you to get him into treatment before things get any worse!

How do I explain indeterminate to him?

Indeterminate means (usually) that there was a signal but it wasn't strong enough to be called positive. A similarity with a titer count would be 'equivocal' meaning there was x amount detected but....they are saying it isn't a negative but they don't exactly want to call it positive.

If his immune system is suppressed as it often is with lyme, and ALS, there is a good chance that with treatment and immune support that many of those indeterminate bands could become positive. That may be different but it is not uncommon to happen.

My WBC were quite low when I first began treatment (4.0 - 4.4) and then they went to 6.5 and then 8.5...that is a pretty freaking big increase. :) One could assume that if immune suppression is an issue not only would WBC increase, but antibody production would also increase and correlate to the increase in WBC.

Make sense? Sorry to hear about the hubby, glad you are looking out for him.

My husband is the same way (and they call US difficult!). I have recently gotten him to take a few herbs to deal with insomnia and he was really surprised that they work. Maybe you could start with something really small, like a japanese knotweed tincture. Tell him to try it, see if it makes a difference. It might change his mind. Slow and steady...lol still working on my own hubby!

But I've already given him the lecture - if he starts to get symptoms of lyme - I'M guiding his treatment- I don't care if he wants herbs abx or what but he WILL be treated lol. (EVEN if he doesn't know it.)
