Lyme mimic Chrons disease.

Anyone here thought they had chrons disease until they found out they had chrons. does anyone have gastrointestinal symptoms like constant diarreha and stomach pain, etc..

Our daughter's intermittent IBS symptoms - diarrhea several times monthly, severe (having to lie down) intestinal pain almost daily was caused by her bartonella infection. These problems resolved immediately with the start of abx treatment and have never returned.

I started having problems years ago with gastrointestinal problems (I've had lyme for almost 12 yrs) I suffered terribly. Now I take VSL#3 High Potency Probiotic that are 112.5 billion bacteria each, I take 4 per day plus I eat 2-3 yogurt each day. That is the only thing that has helped. It has stopped the pain and cramping and 10 plus trips to the potty per day.
I have come to realize Lyme can attack every part of us.

I get them cheaper through crohns.net, they are costly but I discovered when you are in extreme pain you'll do whatever it takes.

I have had many years of intestinal and gastric problems. I was even treated for Crohn's for about 4 months, a few years ago. I had to rebuild my intestinal flora, treat inflammation of the bowels, gastritis, GERD and reflux. Eliminate foods that I am allergic or intolerant to. It helped sooooo much... but then my dr discovered Lyme and coinfections. And with treatment everything is messed up again. I know that my stomach and intestins can get better, cause I've been there before.

With Lyme, you have a real possibility to develop leaky gut, IBS and these other problems. It can get pretty severe. I was (and am again since not long) having horrible cramps, daily (sitting on the toilet, not being able to speak or sit up, sweat dripping off my face because of the pain), sudden diarrhea, constant reflux, etc...
My sister had the same thing going on. She developped severe food allergies and gastric problems over the years (she has Lyme and Bartonella, just like me). Her stomach issues were caused by Bartonella. She was even diagnosed with Bartonella through a positive PCR test on a stomach biopt.

Agree with the Bartonella—I've had crazy GI issues for years and last year after various courses of abx and steroids to treat chronic sinusitis and bronchitis (this was before I knew I had lyme & co.) —some abx which are also used to treat bartonella... I started having these horrible cramping/projectile vomiting/paralyzation episodes. Do a search for "bell's palsy of the gut" and bartonella.

I too upgraded from a middle of the road Probiotic up to VSL#3 capsules. I also added Floristor which helped immensely. I agree about the high cost, I'll check your source.

I then switched over to VSL#3 DS prescription strength at over 900 billion live cultures. It was covered under my standard Rx plan for a premium $35 copay (cheaper than the standard dose $50/bottle). Its in powder form so a little less convenient, but I can take 1/2 a packet per day and still get more than the capsule dosage to reduce daily cost even further.

It took several years taking VSL#3 and Floristor to heal my gut from the damage caused by Lyme and Co's, and after being sick with this since 2008, I'm almost back to normal down there.

Yes, Lyme can cause inflammation in the bowel that mimics Crohn's.

I was mis-diagnosed with Crohn's as a teenager. It was actually a very severe case of amebic dysentery, complete with bleeding fistula and severe diarrhea like a severe flare of Crohn's...but the symptoms completely stopped once the amebic infection was under control.

So yes, infectious organisms (parasites, bacteria, viruses, etc.) can most certainly cause gastrointestinal symptoms that may be labeled "Crohn's" by doctors who are not well-educated on the manifestations of chronic infections such as Lyme, Bartonella, etc.

I have also read of a physician who found Lyme in biopsies taken from Crohn's patients. When the Lyme was properly treated, the Crohn's disappeared.
