I traveled to Vermont from PA every summer for a few weeks visit, always basically living outside with all the great woods, water and beauty. Of course, we also stayed in cabins during the summer in PA, doing our camping thing. Again, ticks were common on all of us kids.
That was during the late 60's and early to mid 70's.
When I was 12, I had my right hand ring finger, between the two joints, swell up miserably, to the point my dad took me to the dr's. The doc lanced it, did a culture, and came back stating I had SYPHILIS.
Now I know that lyme is very similiar to syphilis, and of course way back then, this doc wouldn't know about lyme.
Yep, that's what the doc said. I was a kid, not at all 'active' (never even kissed a boy!), and that was that. I don't even remember if I had taken anything for it. Yes, this is a very odd, weird kind of thing to have happened. At least, I think so.
Through the years I've thought about this, never really able to wrap my brain around it, but left it alone.
Now, here I am, 40 yrs later, dealing with chronic lyme/co. I had a severe 10 day flu back in 2000, and my liver was 3x it's normal size. I was given an abx then, and sent home.
Symptoms have always been present, but not severe enough to mean anything to the docs (lol), and in 2008 my life went into a tail spin with numerous life altering stressors. After all of that, my health and mind went downhill to the point where I'm unable to work, socialize, etc. This brings me to the 'present', with my research and getting my +Igenex in 9/13, and FINALLY finding a llmd to start treatment.
I am beginning to believe that I was infected way back then. We traveled through all the New England states, went hiking through lots of wooded areas and waterways, so this is very possible.
What are other's thoughts about this. I know this is odd, but where/how would I have gotten syphilis without even being active??!!
