Monocytes elevated...???

Guys, I need you right now..... :,(

Nurse called to go over blood work and said my ANA is still positive, my sodium is high and my monocytes are elevated at 15 (normal range 1-9, I believe is what she said).

Anyone else have this happen with Lyme?

I'm so scared, I'm worried about cancer... And autoimmune stuff, BUT I feel like if it is autoimmune it may work itself out with treatment... Lymphoma/leukemia not so much. She said my white count is normal so that's why the doctor hasn't discussed this with me.... Yeah, apparently its been off for a couple months but now they're telling me (probably because my husband is going in to get copies of all my blood tests today). I'm freaking out.

Anyone know much about this???

personally dont recall if I ever had monocytes checked, what blood test did they run to check monocytes?

I just googled this hopefully it helps a little, I have never used this site but there are many responses to your question, just cant tell how qualified the source is.

Not sure, I tested negative for confections. Pretty certain I have Bart, but not sure about babesia.

My husband just went an got copies of my blood work. My monocytes were 15 (on a scale from 4-12), and the monocyte (absolute) percentage was still within range at .7% (on a scale from .1 - .9). My WBC was 4.8.

All this stuff really stresses me out. My biggest concern right now is cancer. Primarily Lymphoma since my lymph nodes have been large (still fluctuating, but always swollen).

If the absolute monocytes were normal, I wouldn't worry. The percentage being high just means some other WBC was on the lower end

I'm not a human doc. That's the only species I'm not licensed to treat, so check with your doctor!

Well my hubby did me another favor today and called and spoke with my llmd about all of this, as I was once again feeling very overwhelmed and emotional.
She said she sees these levels (ANA as well as monocytes) fluctuate in about 95% of her patients, she sees heighted levels and changes lasting for 5-6 months and then eventually things fall off and return to normal with treatment. Since Lyme is such an emotional roller coaster and stress makes everything worse she usually doesn't tell us every little detail or change unless it is extremely concerning.

I am really impressed with the amount of blood work she does... She does a CBC, kidney, liver, thyroid, ana, as well as many others that I don't quite understand and hopefully don't need to, but yeah, every visit - every test! And testing for all autoimmune stuff every 3 months. She also always spends 45 minutes to an hour with me everytime. Maybe that's how most LLMD's are, but I'm just very happy with her today.

Hopefully this can help another Lyme patient googling/stressing in the future.

I am still curious if anyone else here has been told their monocytes are elevated... So if you have a personal experience I'd love to hear it

Yes, he definitely did me some huge favors today. He's an "optimist to fault", but I think I need that more often than not. I think deep down some if these tests had him a bit concerned too. And yeah, he's a keeper - I do love him very much.

I'm back on track now. Happy thoughts, on the road to healing. :)

Very interesting and makes sense. I don't see why the same wouldn't apply for Lyme. Thank you!
