Lyme disease related to ALS?

The more I read, the more I find about lyme being linked to ALS? If you are diagnoses with Lyme disease can it lead to als?

I also think alot of people have ALS like symptoms and possibly get misdiagnosed. IMHO, I don't think Lyme is a direct cause of ALS, but I do think people that really have ALS may have also been exposed to lyme.

I think one curious thing that I recently read was that a lot of ex NFL players have ALS. One just got diagnosed. It seems like athletes seem to get it. Maybe it's from being in grassy, fields with ticks their whole lives.....

Wish some of the LAS ice bucket would also go towards exploring a lyme connection but that would never happen....

ALS is kind of the motor neuron disease whereas MS is the sensory neuron disease. There are people who have pure ALS where there senses work 100% and they only have the motor neuron degeneration that occurs in the brain, spinal cord, and nerve that goes right to the muscle, and eventually the muscle itself. The likely cause of this is genetics and environmental toxins(mercury esspecially) with mycoplasmas and infections also playing a role.

But ALS is diagnosed just based on symptoms... A purely clinical diagnosis! There is no test for ALS! And Lyme apparently needs a positive result from a test that doesn't test positive even if you are!

So somewhere around 90% of the time someone is misdiagnosed with ALS, it is actually Lyme or infection related... Some say mycoplasma fermentans is a really bad one that causes ALS.

If you treat your lyme properly, it will not progress to ALS.
