Hi Carolinpa,

If you don't have any success with a LLND in Alberta, or Sasktachewn, there is a good one in BC. Are you in Saskatchewan?

There is a member on this forum from Alberta, and he sees the one in BC. Hoping he will see this and comment.

Girlie, I'm in Saskatchewan, I'm just about to the point that I might have to go that far for help. Was diagnosed with lyme approx 6 weeks ago but have been sick for 8 years, sick enough that I had to take an early retirement 4 years ago! Thank you for replying.

I have only been to see Dr. C. once. His office is in Richmond, which is the outskirts of Vancouver. His practice is 80% lyme patients.
It would be expensive for you to go there...but after the initial consult, he will do phone appointments for a few months after. I'm not sure how many before you have to see him in person again.

A forum member from Alberta sees him, as well. I have talked to two people from BC who see him for Lyme disease, and they are happy with him.

Girlie, thank you for the link. I will check it out. Since my diagnosis, 6 weeks ago, which was diagnosed by a lab in California, my family physician has put me on 200mg of doxy, a day, for 3 months, & has left me to my own defences, basically saying, see you in 3 months. I have no idea where to go from here!

Carolinpa - have you read the thread at the top of the page.."New to Lyme...Start here?" It is full of good information.
The section on detoxing is something you will want to pay attention to. In order to heal, we must be detoxing regularly. When the Lyme bacteria die, it produces toxins in your body. This can result in an increase in your symptoms (a herx)...and the detoxing methods listed will help you rid your body of these toxins.

Well, at least your Physician gave you a prescription of doxy. But, unfortunately 200 mg per day for three months is not strong enough or long enough to heal lyme disease.
It may be enough to stop it from getting worse.
The usual dose is 200 mg twice a day.

Keep posting with your questions, as this is a wonderful place for support from many people who are struggling like we are...and many who are healing, and some who have healed completely.

Girlie, thanks so much for the support. Yes, I have read 'new to lyme', and found it very helpful. Right now I'm working on finding a (good & trustworthy) LLND. I was set up to see one in Calgary, Alberta, I ended up cancelling because she wanted to charge me $1,400 for two blood tests, that I could get in my own province for $900. (the exact same tests & going to the same lab) so my flight & hotel would have been a waste of money, she said she wouldn't treat me until these tests were done! Her clinic phoned me on Friday to inform me of this & my appt was on the Monday.

? If so yes I hear pretty expensive there. I too am seeing the LLND in Richmond, and so far he is doing a pretty good job.

I'm wondering what tests the Dr. was going to do.

You may want to wait on additional tests until you see the LLND who will be treating you...he/she may choose not to test you until a later date.
I'm assuming you had an Igenex test that was a positive Western Blot. This is usually enough to start treating you.

Girlie, the tests that the Calgary clinic was going to do are, the new western regional co-infection panel & the CD57. Actually I'm waiting for my results on these tests, that ii requested from my ND, my ND knows a little about Lyme but me to see a LLND. Yes I had the western blot done, that was when we found out what I had. My ND recommended that I start on cortrex, liquid B complex, colloidal minerals & high doses of vitamin C. He's not very lyme literate & wanted a LLND to go over his recommendations.

Girlie, Summersun emailed me the name of a LLND in Calgary yesterday, googled her today and she seems like she knows her stuff. If I can't find a LLND in Saskatchewan or in Edmonton, I will definitely consider her.

Carolinapa I know this is an old post but have you tried Dr F. is PA? He just left his family practice and is a MD as well as a naturopath. He practices as a naturopath at the west hill medical clinic and also does shifts at the west hill walk in as an MD. I live near churchbridge and have been unable to get a diagnosis for 2 years. Dr F and Mr C (at PA zoe health centre) have been the ONLY ones to help me. Mr C found it first, and Dr F followed up with the testing and signed my requisition for Igenex which my family doctor at home refused to do. He seems to be very knowledgeable about lyme and very easy to get along with.
