yes that is a herx. Some people advised me to take alka seltzer gold when you are having a herx- somehow it helps.
Yes the herx is unpleasant. I don't quite understand it- maybe someone else can explain it more clearly. It is something like the bacteria are ramping up because they are feeling under attack Sometimes the herx can come and go for a few days and then last a week or two. sometimes a day or two.
Try to think of it ( I know it is hard) as a herx- as something you are going through to get out of having lyme, and something that will pass.
Brighter days are ahead, you just have to go through this awfulness for a while- but then in a few weeks or so it will pass and you will feel better- then in a few months you will feel a lot better.
It can be pretty uncomfortable and also sometimes when people add a new medication they get a new herx.
My first day on rifampin and second day I had massive panic attacks and also felt so fluey and sick as anything bedridden- whereas before I started treating my symptoms weren't as bad as the herx. The medicine stirs things up in your body- and just keep going- you will get to the light at the end of the tunnel. I felt so horrible for the first part of treatment and now I feel really pretty good. You will feel good too- just get through these times. Try to have support system to let friends and family know you will be worse for a couple of weeks before you get better, and try to rest as much as you can.
