So I have a question.. In the future (I'm 15 now, so not anytime soon) is it okay to get pregnant and have kids? I just started treatment for chronic Lyme.. Even after treatment is this something I could pass to my children? I've always dreamt of being a mother, and the possibility I could pass my lyme to my kids scares the heck out of me.

I'm not letting lyme stop me! Granted I wasn't trying to get pregnant...still not sure how it happened but that is okay. I am 7 months along now and so far baby is active and healthy. I finished lyme treatment about 6 months before getting pregnant, haven't had any relapse issues.

Of course, the fear is still there but I know now, what to do if my babe does happen to get sick. Hopefully he got his dads immune system. ;) Still going to get the umbilical cord tested through Igenex.

Everyone is different so it's hard to know. I passed Lyme onto my daughter but I did not know I had Lyme and was not in treatment. After being in treatment for 5 months I discovered I was pregnant with my son. A total surprise and I was in treatment the whole time I was pregnant with him. His cord blood tested negative. It is possible with the right treatment to have a healthy baby and sounds like you are taking care of getting well early in life.

If you have been treated effectively and are not showing any symptoms, then it is most likely that you will not pass these infections on to a child that you are carrying. If you should begin to show symptoms while pregnant due to the stress that is placed on the body while pregnant, all you would have to do is go on abx to keep the baby safe from Lyme.

There is never a guarantee that these infections will pass on to the unborn child anyway. I didn't even know I was infected when I had both of my kids. They are now adults and although I'm a bit paranoid, they have not shown to have any of these infections.

What are some of the things that happen to babies who are born with Lyme? What kinds of things are they born with?

Lyme disease, basically and then they have to have treatments - but of course this is very difficult with new borns. But you can have their cord blood tested and know if they have it or not. It also increases the risks of other issues. I was very lucky and didn't have to watch my children go through any of that.
