Can there ever b false positive?

I don't seem to b getting well. Have a food llmd but has to get new primary care doctor... So had to make appointment with him last week and i was feeling horrible anyway ... Thought I was relapsing... Terrible symptoms.... Eyes hurt and blurry, muscle pain and stiffness, tingling and head chills. My usual symptoms increased. He did bunch of blood tests... Thought maybe I DON'T have Lyme. I had CDC positive test in January band 41 and 23 positive.... I was very sick then. My Epstein Barr number was high and out of range... Dr said this could have thrown Lyme test off. Current Lyme test last week came back negative... Western blot was still showing band 23 reactive.... Dr mentioned could b something else like lupus... I've been on all combos of ABX since January w out much improvement .... Should I b looking at another diagnosis? Or should I still continue to try to treat for Lyme???? Sooooo frustrated! Please help me figure this out!!!! Ugh

Have you been tested for, or has your doctor indicated that you have, any coinfections? Sometimes it is the coinfections that prevent the Lyme treatment from working...

Babesia and bartonella tests were neg. did trial of mepron bc of muscle pain and sweating... Also tried monolauren ... Seemed to worsen symptoms ... Especially monolauren ... Then got funny red bumpy itchy rash On tops of hands and on chest...

I have been researching it for awhile to and its confusing. My August 2014 IGENEX lab report said bands 31, 41, and 83-93 may cross react with viruses. I had these three plus one more. I recently came across a handout from the Michigan Dept. of community health that mentions false positives. They were talking about the IFA test though and Im not sure where they get the information from. I'm possibly going to go off Lyme meds to try antivirals in case I have something else going on, but if I do, I sure will be doing more LYME tests in a month or if I can afford it, a culture test through advanced labs..

Good chance you have Lyme with band 23 plus the severe monolaurin herxes are a good indication. Just the other night I was herxing big time on monolaurin. headachey, fluey, chilled, fatigued, marked increased in tingling legs, back muscle pain, etc. I'm sure some of these sound familiar.

Yes all the same reactions from monolauren ... But I stopped taking it and still felt really crappy for like two weeks.... So I'm not sure what's going on!

You provoked the infections with the monolaurin. I've found that sometimes the herx symptoms will continue for a bit after you've stopped taking it. I cut down to one cap (300mg.) after two caps were making me feel too crappy the other night. I know it's such a low dose but will try to work up slowly and see if I can manage. I know someone who took years to build up on this stuff and can now take up to 18 grams a day. He went from a very severe case to fully functional though he also takes other supps like MMS and colloidal silver. His EBV titers went from very high to non-detectable with monolaurin. Maybe give it another shot working up very slowly. Patience is tough but what other choice is there.
