Is this possible? Or safe? I couldn't live with myself if I had another baby and he/she was sick like my first son.. Not that I can prove it was from lyme. I don't know what else could have gone wrong though sooo....

Are there any websites with information? I know that you can pass it to your kids, but what about after treatment? Because they say if you've had it long enough you never fully get rid of it.. So is my body ruined forever as far as carrying a child? I know the lady in Under Our Skin that had the baby he was fine in the first movie. But in the second one he ended up needing treatment. The mom seemed like she felt fine and did get treated.

I just don't understand how that works at all. Any kid that I ever have no matter what may have the potential to be very sick one day?

Hey IHL, I feel the same way. I want another baby someday, but certainly don't want to pass this on. I guess time will tell. I've thought a lot about adopting once I'm better - there's so many children who need homes - Maybe having Lyme will be a positive that way - helping someone in need of a loving home, and I know I could love a child even if it isn't my biological child.

My LLMD said getting pregnant again is not out of the question by any means. But I would still worry.

My little boy is almost 2 - he has LD. I just got his Igenex results a couple weeks ago. He is developing just fine - emotionally/mentally/physically - the only issue(s) he's had are eczema and increased susceptiblity to infections.

Seeing his doctor in a few weeks.

Delmar- My son is 2 now. He is fine now but he wasn't well until he was about 18 months old. I had no idea about any of this lyme stuff until pretty recently. He goes with me to my apointments at the LLND. I was told that as long as he is feeling well I don't need to do anything. But if he does get sick I know exactly where to bring him and what to do. He has the potential to get very sick at any time in his life.. Breaks my heart..

I'm wondering if anyone here has had lyme, been treated and feels well, and successfully had a healthy baby. How much of a guarantee is taking antibiotics during pregnancy?

Adopting would be amazing. I've been thinking of that alot also. My other half would really prefer to have another kid of his own. I must admit I wouldn't hate to be pregnant and do it all over again. It's just really scary that is hardly any research out there.

I guess this isn't something I should be thinking about right now being as sick as I am. But the mind does wander when you're constantly "taking it easy" on the couch with tea. I just can't get enough information about this stuff!! I want to know everything and be certain that I am making informed decisions. Its hard to sift through the maze and know what is fact or fiction. Incredibly unsettling.

As someone who hasn't had a baby yet, I'm worried about that too. It's not in the foreseeable future for me but one day I would like to have a child of my own. If it doesn't happen for other reasons that's one thing. But knowing that the baby could be born with lyme and have future health problems is really scary.

I understand your fears. And it is aggravating at times where the mind goes when one isn't feeling well. On bad days, like today, my mind goes to such dark places. But on good days when the symptoms aren't so bad, I think how crazy I was acting and why would I even dare think of such things. Yet here we are again, I'm feeling terrible and suddenly I'm scared and anxious and thinking about all the things I haven't done or might not do.

They really need to cure this disease soon. People shouldn't have to go through this.

There's a Canadian couple - Justin and Christa - she had lyme disease for a few years before getting proper treatment..and then it took another few years for her to get well.

It's a heart-wrenching story, with a happy ending. I'll put the link here...and if you do watch it, remember to get a big box of kleenex first. It's hard to watch at times...she goes through a lot!! And what a sweetheart husband she has. She suffered immensely!!!

IHL & Jade - there was someone who posted on here back in April or May, I think. she just had a baby - baby was healthy, and so was she. She said she treated LD for 1.5 years on abx and now things are well. You might search "lyme success story". Also one of the forum mods is healthy and pregnant now too. She treated with 4.5 months on abx, and then herbal/naturopathy treatment (can't remember how long she treated in total).
It can happen.
I try to focus on getting better, and hope the future will fall into place, but I know how you feel - its very hard sometimes.

IHL - too bad we're not neighbors - we could have "play dates". It'd be so nice... you and I could lay on the couch in our pjs an the kids could entertain each other...! I wish!! ;)

It's a hard to answer that question as everyone here knows treating lyme is complex. And it is a great task in getting every last germ. Which may not ever actually happen.

Because it is so tricky to get every last germ, and since lyme does get into the tissues... There maybe a few germs left after treatment even if you don't have symptoms. Chances are they will be the wimpier less aggressive kind which we hope.

There may or may not be a risk and it depends on so many factors like how long you have had the infection, your treatment, etc. it is very complex and even the LLMDs will tell you that. But they will say there maybe a risk.

But one piece of good news, is that you can take abx during pregnancy to have a baby that will not have lyme and the chances of it transmitting are close to 0. Amoxicillin or azithromycin for example are safe to take during pregnancy.

my LLMD clearly said that once you no longer are actively sick, that you can safely get pregnant. Plus I heard that taking preventative antibiotics while pregnant works very well. Don't give up hope, just don't jump the gun yet. Get well first, and then go from there.

I wish there was more research out there. It doesn't seem like this could actually happen with a disease. The people profiting from this deserve to be in jail!

I guess my story already is a success story. I had a baby and he survived and is doing well now. It was a rough journey to get him this far, but we made it.

Maybe I won't ever have another baby.. maybe I will. I'll have to cross that bridge when I get there.
