I'm so glad you got your test results back!! I'm not explaining this well today, so I hope this makes sense!! Sorry!!
There are some things you should know. IND means indeterminate - there is enough of a positive response to keep it from being considered negative, but not enough of a positive response to be considered "fully" positive. The more "+" beside a result means that it was a stronger response, so one "+" means that it's a positive response, although if you had 3 or 4 +'s, it would be an overwhelmingly positive response.
IgM responses are 'created' during an 'active' infection. It used to be thought that they were only created during the beginning of the infection process, but now we know that it's during the 'active' phase of the infection - each time it happens.
The IgG responses are created during the later stages of infection - no surprised for you as you believe you have a long standing infection anyway, right? Or do I remember wrong???
So it doesn't matter whether the bands are in the IgM or IgG slot, they mean the same things:
Band 18 is a flagellin(tail of the bacteria) fragment and can be positive for any of the spirochete (type of bacteria in Lyme and others) infections like Pintas and Yaws, Relapsing fever, Syphilis and a few others.
Band 28 is for OspD (Outer Surface Protein "D") and is specific for Bb sensu stricto (Lyme disease in the strictest sense).
Band 31 is for OspA - (Outer Surface Protein "A") and is specific for Bb sensu stricto.
Band 39 - BmpA (Bacterial Membrane Protein "A") and is specific for Bb
Band 41 is controversial right now on what it means, but I have yet to see any articles that show anything other than it being for Fla B - another part of the tail of the bacteria and it can cross react with other spirochetal infections such as Pintas and Yaws, Syphilis, Relapsing Fever and a few others - just like band 18.
Band 83 and Band 93 are both specific for Bb though
So you can see that you have several Lyme specific bands that are showing up in your blood - and since the only thing that can make those bands show up are Lyme bacteria - congratulations! You have Lyme!
But you knew that because you have the symptoms to back up the diagnosis.
So do you have a game plan with your LLMD?
