As some of you already know, I am Canadian...where LLMD's do not exist. It is not recognized that lyme disease needs to be treated in many cases with long term antibiotics.
To test for lyme disease - a two-tiered approach is used. If the Elisa is negative (which happened in my case), then the WB is not done.

My Dr. (GP) knows I am seeing a LLND in our Province...but I was unsure of her thoughts about long-term treatment.

I had an appt. with her last week...and she asked how I was feeling...and I told her that I was 'okay' but still not even close to being well - then I told her I was still treating the lyme disease...and said that I am hesitant about telling her I am still on antibiotics...going on 5 months now.
We discussed all the lab work I had done...with nothing else showing up. Not even raised ANA.
She then said to me that I should continue with the antibiotics...and not "stop half-way through" treatment. She said...there's a lot that isn't known about lyme disease...and she supports me continuing.

This was good news...as there aren't a lot of MD's here who would have said that...
She is from South Africa...I'm wondering if they are more accepting of long term treatment for lyme disease there...anyone know?
Or maybe...she actually sees what is happening...and is smarter than the other yahoos we have to deal with in the medical profession.

That's good you found her. Maybe she's just in the job for the right reasons and more personable because of it. Her nationality might contribute too.

Just wanted to mention that many people have better luck with the WB during treatment. I would guess that your immune system is functioning fairly well or you would be much much sicker in the middle of your treatment. If there is ever any suggestion to retest you, I would strongly recommend "provoking" a more accurate lyme response with olive leaf extract (inexpensive—can find it at most health food stores) for about 3-4 wks before testing. My ELISA was negative, I provoked, then my IGenex WB was "CDC-positive", the holy grail.

That is a very positive sign that she is interested in "joining" your treatment path rather than redirect it to follow suspicions down other rabbit holes. I am so happy you found someone you believe in. That seems to be half the battle for most of us. Please let us know how things are going with her.

That is fantastic news, Girlie. As a fellow Canadian, I cheer your victory - having your GP's support is huge!

My GP still doesn't believe my IFA and CDC positives since they were done at a US lab - Igenex. He did offer to retest me at a Canadian lab. Um, thanks but no thanks. One Canadian and three Igenex negatives were plenty. I'm sticking with the Igenex positive.

P- I have had an Igenex WB done and was Igenex positive for the IgM.
That was end of June ( the Canadian Elisa was done in April).
My GP looked at the Igenex test and said, "Okay what do you want to do?" And I asked for 200 mg x2 of doxy and she wrote it out for 30 days and on my way out she asked for a copy of my results.

I think she has an open mind...

Hi Girlie. No problem about the name. Much bigger things to fret about these days.

I am working with an ND who did an ILADS internship with the Dr. H., but still struggling with the inability of NDs to prescribe in Alberta. Limits the options and since I'm dealing with chronic Lyme, and possible Babs and Bart, more options would be welcome.

Also did extensive testing with a functional MD at the end of October to see what else I'm dealing with thanks to Lyme and Co, but can't get in to see her for results until February! Lyme - the gift that keeps on giving.

Hope you've been feeling as well as possible these days.

Volyme- don't know if you will see this post. - If you are interested in the abx route - have you considered a trip to the ND I see here in BC. Depending on where you are in Alberta - it may be a very long day trip - or a more manageable two day trip by car - or of course you could fly.

Just wanted to let you know my LL ND saw me in August - and have been doing phone appts since. So, the first appt would be expensive for you because do the travel, but not so much for the next 3 or 4 appts.

He is experienced at treating Lyme disease - and 80% of his practice is treating lyme and co's.
