I have read that Lyme affects the liver... basically Lyme affects everything! I need liver support... Milk thistle? Any side effects... GO!

You are asking if there are any side effects to milk thistle? None that I know of or have experienced. I think you can't take it with Rifampin, however.

Milk thistle seed extract and burdock root have done a great job at keeping my liver enzymes down while taking a systemic anti fungal, which is hard on the liver.

If you have an allergy to rag weed, you shouldn't take milk thistle. (Taking this from Traveler's advice)
I would like to know if it's true you can't take it with rifampin...as my LLND may be prescribing rifampin at my next appt.

I've read that beets are good for the liver. Sometimes, not too often, but occasionally I'll juice some for my son and I. If you go to the juice guy, Jay Kordich's, website or Facebook page he lists which food is good for what and that's where I first read about
beets and the liver. Then I saw it again in Dr. N. McF's book "The Lyme Diet".

I found this liver detox article to be helpful:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/leo-galland-md/why-you-need-to-detoxify-_b_706106.html
I take milk thistle, drink lemon water and also a green drink (that contains broccoli sprouts) to help detox my liver.
I've been taking SAM-e for a long while and added curcumin right after starting my first abx for Lyme. I was happy to discover they help with liver detox.....same thing with the daily whey protein I've had for lunch for the past 4 years.

Hello!
My liver cleanse regime goes like this:
First thing in the morning on an empty stomach, I fill a coffee cup with warm water and squeeze in fresh lemon. I drink this to get my colon stimulated and then I take 2 capsules of Cultao Liver Support & Detox. I wait another 30 mins before I eat breakfast or take other supplements. You can find this on Amazon...
http://www.amazon.com/Premium-Supplements-N-Acetyl-Cysteine-Turmeric-Dandelion/dp/B00GY3LIAI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420734515&sr=8-1&keywords=cultao+liver+support+and+detox
Some of the ingredients include:
Vitamins C, B6, Folic Acid and B12.
Milk Thistle
Selenium
Tumeric
Artichoke
Dandelion
Yellow Dock
Contains no sugar, salt, dairy, wheat, gluten, soy, preservations, artificial colors or flavors.
I can tell that this product works well for me because of the drastic improvement of the frequency and consistency of bowel movements (sorry if TMI!!) when my diet and water consumption remains the same as compared to when I don't take it. I have taken plain Milk Thistle by itself in the past and did not achieve the same results. Despite it being a little pricey, I decided to give it a shot because of the great reviews on Amazon.
Also, when I ordered my last bottle I received an insert in the packaging that offered a FREE bottle by going to cultao.com/freebottle or calling 844-798-5484. Limit 1 free bottle per customer.
Also, it offered a 15% off Amazon discount for the entire catalog of products by going to cultao.com/coupon.
I have been impressed enough by this product to continue to order and I am looking into ordering other products by Cultao such as the Adrenal Support.
I hope you find something that works for you!

Just echoing what most have already said on here. Juicing is great for everything, but Beet and apples (cant have too many because of the sugar) are great for the liver. I also juice dandelion greens for liver health as well.
Green tea is also helpful from what my TCM doc says.
best of luck!

Not everyone with a rag weed allergy should avoid milk thistle, but do be aware of what may be happening if you take milk thistle. For me, it made my liver hurt. It still may be worth a try.
I use an orange juice based liver flush any time that my liver seems to be over burdened by toxins.

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA)
I take 600mg daily, sometimes 1200mg. Do some research on your own, but there is great benefits using ALA. One articles I came across showed how a married couple ate poisonous mushrooms. The treating doctor gave up and asked his intern to take notes as they pass. The intern gave the couple ALA in IV form and weeks later they were healthy as normal. From there, I think treating the liver (and stomach) can heal the entire body.
It's also important to take B12 with ALA. I remember it with BALA since I take so many vitamins.
