I am not a fan of anti inflammatory medicines, here is my very long story about them:
I took anti inflammatory medicines for about 7 years straight (from age 12-18) then whenever I could for the next 2 years. My pain wasn't as severe at the beginning and got worse and worse so it started out as just motrin then I switched to naproxen. It did help at first but I was still always in some pain (sometimes severe pain). When I was 18 my stomach was is such bad shape that I couldn't take any anti inflammatory medicines daily anymore. I had stomach burning for 3 years and it just got unbelievably bad when I was 18 so I had to get a stomach scope done and had to take more medications (for gastritis, GERD, and acid reflux) to help heal my stomach but it didn't completely help, I still sometimes get burning (and had to completely cut out any acidic or spicy foods, even tomatoes). Around age 18 is when the medicines started to stop working even more. I tried out different ones but nothing was working so I went to taking just motrin once or twice a month. When my Lyme got crazy worse when I was 19 (after a car accident) the motrin stopped working more and more and made my stomach burn too bad so when I was 20 I completely stopped taking it because of the burning and because it didn't do anything (2 years ago). Some people say that anti inflammatory medicines can cause leaky gut and I do have leaky gut, which is extremely horrible and my reactions to foods are AWFUL.
So I say if you can function and live your life without anti inflammatory medicines, keep doing that or just take medicine every once in a while (like once or twice a month). I wish I hadn't taken so much motrin and naproxen, it ruined my stomach and intestines and now that I need it the most it doesn't work. Like others are saying, try turmeric first. I can't even eat turmeric because it burns my stomach so bad.
