Migraine from Augmentin??

I've been treating for a year and recently started Augmentin.

Over the past couple of weeks I ramped up to 1000mg of Augmentin, 2 pills twice a day. As I got to the max dose I started getting severe migraines, neck pain, and head and neck pressure. I stopped immediately.

It's been 8 days and I am still having really bad headaches and pressure. My llmd said the side effects shouldn't last this long after stopping the medication.

Has anyone else experienced long lasting side effects??

Are you detoxing? Headaches can definitely be a herx reaction.

I am detoxing in my infrared sauna every day amongst other things...

The llmd Mentioned it could be a herx. If so, I haven't herxed like this in 9 months. The lyme has been under control for a long time so I would be shocked if I'm getting such an extreme reaction this point.

On the other hand, some of my other symptoms which I haven't experienced in months are also resurfacing but to a lesser extent.

I agree that it's probably a herx but, so sorry you're dealing with this.

After several months of relatively static and super mild symptoms (buzzing and/or poking sensations that come and go throughout the day), my LLMD is weaning me off abx and starting me on the Cowden Protocol.

I'd been following the Cowden detox tincture schedule for the past month in preparation of the swtich and Monday was the "big day" when I started the Cowden anti-microbials.

One hour after the first dose (1/30 of the ultimate dose), I developed a new symptom (upper right quadrant of my head hurt like heck and felt really. really cold).

Following the Cowden recommendations with increased detox tinctures helped make the symptom dissipate and I was able to take my second dose (30 minutes before lunch).

The 3rd (dinnertime) and 4th (bedtime) doses were uneventful.

Well, I started feeling significant body aches after my morning dose yesterday and things just escalated from there (severe stomach pains/nausea, stinging chills). I didn't do any detox tinctures because eating/drinking anything was out of the picture. The only detox I got in for the day was the oil pulling I do when making breakfast and the dry skin brushing before my shower.

I'm only starting to feel better now (but my cheeks still feel frozen and "regular" chills are coming and going).

Joeyphoenix....I think we're both hitting areas of infection that previous tx didn't "hit"....blech.

Joey can you tell if the Augmentin caused inflammation?

Endless migraines like you describe sound like their caused from uneven blood flow. Since you have other symptoms flaring up again maybe your lymph nodes etc are swollen again?

Ask your Dr if their is anything you can take to reduce swelling and get the restricted blood flow back to normal. New Chapter makes a natural inflammation response supplement. You could also try icing to take down the swelling and than heat for blood flow.

I'm experiencing the same thing. I was on augmentin for about four months, maybe a little more. I definitely dealt with headaches, migraines, neck, back pain and stiffness. I've been off the augmentin since the new year and I thought the headaches were gone. They were for awhile. But then this past week was rough and everything came back. I really can't tell the difference between a migraine and tension headache anymore.

I've been taking what I can to relieve it, tylenol, excedrin migraine, motrin, etc. Sometimes it feels like it helps, other times it doesn't . I'm also seeing an upper cervical chiropractor, who I think has been helping.

Still having the headaches, unfortunately...They are so weird and scary, hopefully they go away soon :(

jrpsf thank you for the suggestions and kind words :) I'm not sure if it's inflammation or not but that would make sense. I'm waiting on hearing back from my doctor.

Cheetahjade, sorry to hear you're dealing with headaches too. I hope they go away and never come back!! I really don't know what a migraine is, never had such bad headaches before in my life. The weirdest part is that throughout the day, the pain and pressure migrates all over my head and neck. For a few hours it's behind my ears, then my temples, then the base of my neck, then the center of my head. I hope the chiropractor brings you relief :)
