speech loss

I'm wondering if anyone with lyme disease on here has experienced complete speech loss. My mom was first diagnosed with ALS (bulbar presentation). After a few years she really did not progress as a typical ALS patient might.(although I don't think there is a typical ALS patient). We had her tested for Lyme finally (I asked the doctors who diagnosed her with ALS to test her two years ago for Lyme and they assured me it was not that). Her numbers for lyme were off the charts positive. Really interested in seeing if anyone has experienced the complete loss of speech like she has. She also no longer swallows She has been on IV antibiotics since November 1st. Every now and then she moves her tongue now which she couldn't do before IV treatment. No improvements in speech and getting very weak in her legs. Anyone who has had anything similar? Would love to hear from you. We need encouragement as it's so hard to watch her suffer so much.

I don't have an answer for you, but I know the heartache you're going through since I went through that with my mother, who passed away 2 years ago. I sometimes wondered if she had Lyme. My doc said it was possible she did. Antibiotics would sink her so much and the worst episode from them made it so she couldn't swallow properly and she was so weak and couldn't speak at all. She never did talk much during those 3 years. I know part of her problems were drug related too.

Hi Neziv. We are kindred souls . My mother has the same diagnosis. It has been extremely difficulty, frustrating, painful. She cannot move her legs, right arm is now very weak, and she slurs quite severely, as well as the feeding issues. We are about to start IV treatment as soon as we get the picc line In. Meanwhile, she is about to start a bunch of oral meds that I am going to list on my signature tonight. she has been on cats claw and banderol. arm continues to get weak, but she is swallowing a little better and is able to move the right toes. HI, I recently read an article about a teenage boy who couldn't talk because of the Lyme. I don't know where I read it, but I am sure that was his main symptom.

This is so encouraging to hear from each of you. I take your advice and encouragement to heart and appreciate it very much. She has had several MRI's, CT scans, EMG's and other tests to rule out lesions on her brain. Although I appreciate the help and thought, as that would totally makes sense to her problems. She is having terrible back pain today and last night now. We are trying to help get her comfortable with that. She is skin brushing, soaking her feet and using essential oils of detox but I am totally open to any other ideas. She cannot soak in a tub because she has a feeding tube in her stomach and her PICC line in her arm. She also probably isn't strong enough in her legs to step into and out of the tub. I wish she could because it would help her back as well I think. She is a fighter and we are too. Will not ever give up on her!! Thank you everyone for your help.

My 23 year old daughter is doing this as well. Sometimes I feel she just doesn't have the strength to talk. She signs what she wants mostly. She can still spell great, so it's really confusing. Maybe frustrated with the strength it takes to find the right words and stuttering, they just rather stay silent. She also has problems with her throat, so that might affect swallowing. Pretty sure her co-infection is Bartonella. Definitely the Lyme affecting the brain in many ways. Many well wishes your way!
