Day 5 of PICC Line in can IV Rocephin cause chills

I am on my 5th day of IV Rocephin and have horrible chills. I have never had chills in the entire 3 years of treating. Anyone else experience chills on IV Rocephin.

I have never had IV Rocephin, but I have had dreadful chills from other antibiotics.

Hope you get through this soon.

my son has chills with and without abx for the past couple of months. Sometimes they are so bad at night that he sleeps with a heavy Sherpa hoodie, a heating pad, a Sherpa blanket and 2 comforters. He used to sweat a lot and he was always hot. Now, the opposite. He only took oral abx.

I'm sure it's caused by the iv in some way if you've never gotten them before. I would tell the doc prescribing it. I got chills real bad on rocephin but I also got very high fevers and it was only with the fevers that I got the chills. The fevers started about 8 days in and would start a couple hours after the injection and continue for about 5 hours and then go away. They me off it a few days later because the fevers got too high.

You might want to try doubling the amount of time for administration of the the Rocephin, it could be what we nurses call "speed shock" which happens when an IV drug is pushed too quickly.

If you're getting chills hours after the drug goes in, that's probably not it, I'm just throwing it out there.
BTW, chills are one of my herx signs. Could be that way for you too.
