Normal blood test?

I took my daughter to check her thyroid. They done a few other blood test. They said it was all normal. So I requested the actual numbers. I was concerned about monocytes or maybe it was the MCV because they look to be a high normal and are caused by chronic inflammatory disease, bacterial infections, etc. and her B12 which they said was normal was actually listed as high and could be caused be cancers(yes I read to much). Just seeing if anyone had any input on any of these near normal results? I would like to add her D3 was 16 and it's normal now after all the D3 she's taken to build it. And her B12 was on the normal low 6 months ago so they gave her a shot every week for a month and then was going to check it and give her one once a month but my daughter was too ill to go back. So she did get 4 B12 shots about 3 months ago but hasn't had any added B12 in about 2 months now. Could she have gotten to much and still have B12 near 1000? Thanks for any input on any of this.

i have heard of b12 shots causing a major reaction, for d3, how much was she taking. taking massive doses of vitamins usually cause some kind of neurological reaction, because your body is not used to that level of vitamins.
If her b12 was normal, why was she getting shots for b12? Shots usually inject large doses at once.

It is crazy. Her doctors do not communicate with each other( neurological and family) they know nothing of her LLMD. Her D3 was 16. Her LLMD gave her 50,000iu for 10 days and 10,000 for a month after. Her B12 was at 264. One doc said it's normal but another said it was on the low normal and started giving her shots. Thankfully my daughters neuro problems caused her to refuse to leave the house so I didn't get her any more than 4 of the shots. Because it's at 996 now and she hasn't had the shots in two months. I could imagine how high it would have gotten.

They try to give me so many explanations for her dizziness and mood swings and their diagnosis never works. UGH! If they would just acknowledge chronic lyme.

I'm totally worried now. I just looked up if b12 shot would cause high levels of b12 and it said it wouldn't because the body easily disposes of it. And high levels of b12 indicate serious health problems with liver, kidneys, or cancers. I mean 264 to 996 is a big jump in a few months. I will definitely call the doctor to see what she thinks. Thanks for listening. I'm just an overly worried mom. :(

Hi Lymecrazed - My thought is that the reason her B12 is high is because of the B12 shots.

I would retest her B12 in a month or so...and see where it's at.

Vit. D is in range now.

If her B12 was just on the low side, I wonder why they just didn't suggest a sublingual B12 supplement...instead of the shots. And then retest.

My B12 was like ~1300. My doctor said nothing. I just tak multivitamins, I hope I dont have cancer! but in all seriousness, if the doctor wasnt concerned I'm not either. As far as normal blood tests go they know what's common or not.

Thanks so much! I feel better already. Since it has been over two months without any B12 shots, I'm still going to call the doctor to reassure myself and tell her about the neuro doc giving her the shots. I will also mention she had a high creatinine serum level on the last test which this doc didn't check for. Thanks again!

If by creatine do you mean the cpk? Mine was elevated quite a bit, it signified muscle damage or dead muscle or somethin, doc didn't car about that either.

Creatinine serum is kidney function. But she's had a constant problem with her kidneys since she's had lyme.

My B-12 yrs ago was like 1800, I drank a lot of energy drinks at the time. Then when my LD did it, it was still like 1200. I think having the MTHFR double mutation that my body couldn't use it. Now I take methyl B-12 but haven't retested it. I'm not worried about it.

Just wondering about different ranges for different people. Did it actually say high on your blood test? And that is ok? Hers list high as her range is 211-946 as her normal.

My b12 was around 1400 in December when I was taking sublingual drops of the cyano synthetic version. In Feb, LLMD was not alarmed at the previous reading and offered a b12 shot (also cyano version) in his office before I left saying that many lymies are deficient and that I would get a big energy boost from it. I agreed, took the shot and within a couple of hours, I felt drunk and exhausted.

Turns out I have 2 MTHFR genetic mutations. I cannot metabolize the synthetic cyano version of b12 or folic acid. I believe the reason my level in Dec was so high was because it continued to build up in my blood with my body unable to utilize it.

LLMD was not worried about it, but with that high of a reading I am wondering why he did not suspect gene mutation and why then go on to offer me the shot.

I am not too concerned. I just stay away from the synthetic forms including cereals and baked goods that are fortified.

Thanks for all the help. These responses give me so much peace now. I just didn't know. Sometimes I think I want something to show up so they can treat her. Lyme seems untreatable for us right now financially. And all the test seem to be Lyme related. Her WBC was 4.5 which is normal low and another common Lyme thing. Thanks ((hugs))
