Feet Burning. 41 IgG only Reactive

Starting last June my hands start burning off and on, a day here, then off for a few days. Eventually it spread to my feet and lower legs.  I get random numbness here and there, but as time goes on, the burning in my feet seems to be getting a lot worse and it's on pretty much 24/7.

 

Over the last several months I’ve had these tests plus more, all coming up negative/normal (except my Vitamin D levels, which are low, 23).

 

MRI on spine and back, MS test, lupus, diabetes, vitamin levels, Gluten, thyroid stim hormone, heavy metal screening, sjogrens, HIV, went to a chiropractor, even had the basis Lyme Antibody and B.Burgdorferi tests, all negative/normal.

 

However, my new doctor just took the more elaborate blood tests (not sure the name, but not the IGENEX version). 

 

The results came back with only 41 IgG being reactive.

I do feel ill, nauseated at times, but for the most part it’s mostly the intense burning on my feet and hands (though mostly feet).  A slight weird “hit my funny bone” feeling in left arm, and a strange almost electrical feeling near left armpit.

 

In the last 18 months, I have visited a cottage and we’ve seen plenty of ticks (northern Michigan).  At one point I was lying out in the middle of the woods, buried myself in leaves and sticks while trying to scare my kids.  Took them 10 minutes or so to arrive.   Seemed like a good idea at the time, lol. Anyway, later that day I found three ticks on me, though I don’t recall ever feeling or seeing a bite.  I also do not have any strange rashes.

 

Not that I’m hoping for Lyme, but in a way, yes.  It would be nice to finally find what’s been consuming my life over these last 10 months. 

 

Could this be Lyme?   Could it be something associated with Lyme?

 

My next appointment is a week and a half away, which is not horrible, but I’ve been excited about so many things in the past, only to have my hopes crushed when I get into the doctor’s office. 

 

Basically, is a Reactive hit on 41 IgG, and only 41 IgG pointing to something or is that a very common test result that still means negative?

 

Should I still request to go on Antibiotics?  Should I ask for the IGENEX testing?  (how much are those by the way?)

 

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

If you've had other things already ruled out, I would go ahead and get the IGenex test. It's about $200 out of pocket. But it is a more accurate test. I would also try to book an appointment with a Lyme doctor in the meantime (LLMD). Sometimes it can take a month or longer to get in. But in the meantime, your primary doc can order the IGenex.

I agree burning feet is bartonella. I didn't have burning in my hands but mostly I felt like my fingers were crushed. All of them. This did not go away with lyme antibiotics which I treated for 6 months. Only after 6 months when I started to add treatment for barto these symptoms started to improve.

I never got a rash either. I was lucky enough to get a CDC positive test. My son who was bit and got the rash, got a negative CDC test. We are testing him through IGENEX for lyme and barto and should have the results any day now. My daughter who also got bit, got a rash but not a bulls eye typical rash. I pulled the tick and it got to her blood because a drop a blood came out when I pulled it; it broke, which increases the chance of infection. Her test was also CDC positive. Even if all your bands were negative, you should not rule lyme out.

Amadeus, sounds like you could have Bart. I have burning in both my feet on the soles of the feet, and it's pretty much 24/7 as well, the only time it's slightly better is if I walk barefoot or in sandals. The moment I take my shoes off and step on the floor with socks, intense burning. I have Lyme as well as Bart. Burning feet is a typical symptom of Bartonella, which causes nerve pain, amongst other symptoms. As others have suggested, I would highly recommend you get a test from IGeneX, and include a co-infection panel. I know it is expensive, but there is no price tag on your health.

Dave, my B6 was high for about a month due to supplements (was 137, but after retest, dropped to 29, which is pretty much normal). My B12 was probably fine, 487 and later 437, meaning it could be slightly on the low side. I was just trying to up that because I thought it helped with nerve damage. It seemed like whenever I was on a B supplement of any kind, I was dizzy, but I couldn't really tell because I was on and off those for various reasons over the last couple months. So I'm hoping the dizziness is from those and not one of my main symptoms. I recently stopped taking all supplements to find out.

My feet burn 24/7, but they do seem better at night and early morning.

My hands are pretty random. Can't nail down any pattern. Sometimes they seem almost ok for a week, then it comes on for a few days. But that pain is only moderate compared to my feet. Which basically feels like I'm wearing shoes, and my feet are extremely close to a fire. This sometimes goes up my ankles a little, and every so often will be around calf level, but so far has stayed below my knees.

Did you (Dave) get any positive hits on the $1,200 IGeneX test? Hopefully you found something and can start getting past all this.

Quick Noob question though, are you saying that your IGenex came back negative for Lyme, but positive for Bartonella? Meaning one of the IgG's or IgM's tested specifically for Bartonella?

Rowingmom (above) said you don't have to have Lyme to have one of the coinfections. Which I suppose would be nice. (nice = relief to find out what it is).

Amadeus: I have burning soles of my feet often. It is caused by Bartonella. Sometimes my scalp burns too and it has happened to my hands or a finger a couple of times. I have also had my share of dizziness which was one of my main and worst symptoms. I have Lyme, Bartonella, and Babesia.
