Surprise! I thought I was getting minocycline, but when I got my prescript
ions I got Ceftin and Biaxin. I have no idea what to do with them, so I'll call my doc Monday.
But for now, how have any of you reacted to it, did you get better? Any tips
Do I take them with food. Is calcium magnesium or other vitamins ok

I just came off the Ceftin/Biaxin combo. Biaxin did not do me well. The worst side effect of Biaxin was the metallic taste. For me the combo was not good - made me feel worse. So after a month on it, my LLMD switched me to Mino and Septra. I took it with food and definitely take it 1-2 hours away from calcium and minerals. If the metallic taste bothers you, my LLMD suggested drinking some cranberry juice. Good luck!

Dealing with Biaxin metalic taste:
You don't let the pill touch a dry mouth or tongue.
Get some water in your mouth first,
open mouth a little to take pill with head back tilted back (dont drowned!), swallow pill fast.
If the pill floats in the water in your mouth correctly, you get minimal metallic taste.

So the metallic taste is actually from the pill, not the chemical getting into your saliva or tastebuds? Interesting.

I did great on Biaxin with plaquenil. I had more trouble with ceftin on it's own then on the biaxin/plaq combination. Maybe you shoud start out trying one at a time and see which one is bothering you.

I disagree. In my experience I think the metallic taste is from the actual drug affecting the taste buds. It only happened to me a few hours after taking the pill so I doubt it's from the pill.

that what I thought, LymePickle. Because I had a similar problem with amoxicillin, and that can days after starting amoxicillin.

biaxin after-taste didn't hit me until a while after I took it...definitely wasn't coming from contact with my mouth...
A LLMD (don't know which one) spoke about
the after-taste being 'proof' that the med had reached the proper blood levels. I think it was biaxin he was referring to.
Did you read that, too LP?

Girlie, I read that from what Dr.B said about
that with biaxin. The drug gets into the saliva and causes that taste, or it affects the way the taste buds work. Not sure which one but I'm pretty sure it is from the right blood levels of the drug.

BDL - I don't really know how I did on Biaxin. My journey isn't very clear-cut... I got a couple of rashes when I was on it, and my LLND told me to discontinue after the second rash.
But, was it an allergy? Or was it a herx causing either a lyme or bartonella rash? I don't know.
After I went off biaxin, I had Tinidazole added - two days per week. I've had so many bad days since, that I wonder if I'm backsliding - and should have stayed on biaxin. Or, am I in a constant low-level herx from the Tinidazole.
I can't tell anymore.
When I started treatment last July, I knew I was herxing on Day 4 of doxy - lasted 12 days. I had overall back pain...that I hadn't had before...and after 12 days when I lowered the dose, it eased up a bit.
My herxes aren't as clear-cut anymore - maybe I should be seeing it as a good thing...except I don't know if I'm dropping any symptoms...lately.
I've got too many...and some appeared months into treatment and have stayed....
Sorry to lament...

I was on Biaxin tablets.
The initial metalic taste when I took it was the worse strongest taste while using the ABX. For me, the lingering taste was nothing compared to the moment of when taking the pill. It turned pasty real fast, no coating at all.
Doing the mouthful of water first helped and was VERY noticeable reducing the offensive taste.
I had a non coated tablet, not capsule. In tablets you obviously will taste the pill. Capsules only taste the gel coat, I am assuming here.
Yes this worked for my taste buds. From your comments, It seems obvious that you guys must have had a different brand or type than the awful Biaxin I got to experience.
