any college students/young people out there?

Our 21 year old son is away at school doing 6 hours of IV a day and dealing with awful headaches. He tries to keep going and has good friends but it would probably be helpful to talk with others going through the same thing! Thanks

I turn 20 in June and am currently a freshman in college.

I have been through a lot the past two years or so, as my father suddenly left my mother and I. My mother is pretty sick with lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, among a host of other ailments along with some mental issues which were the result of an abusive relationship with my father, which she is trying to work through. I have kind of been on my own since and also been trying to care for my mother who got screwed by my father financially and is in no position to work. I have a pretty lucrative job lined up to start this summer which will help my mother get some of the treatment she needs, but I really need to be healthy and in a right state of mind to do it, which is not the case right now. I have been pretty sick the last two years with what I just found out to be Lyme and I can't seem to shake it. It has been tearing me up that I am not in a state to work and support my mom when I know I could if I was healthy.

If it wasn't for some of my close friends, I honestly don't know how I would have gotten through these past two years. If he wants to talk to someone his age, I would be happy to do so. I know how difficult it is to deal with this at this age. You feel like you should be in your prime and yet opportunities are just slipping by. It is not easy, but I am glad he is very driven. There is nothing you can do but take it one day at a time and stay positive.

I'm 29 years old, and a working professional. I have been sick for the last 2-3 years but have battled Tourette's Syndrome and other conditions my entire life. I managed to become successful, an athlete, have great friends and graduate college. Anything is possible with the right support, a group of loving family and friends and the determination to get better and heal. If your son wants to talk to me I'm more than happy to provide some guidance and support.

Your mom is really lucky to have you!!!!! It's too bad she can't be the one taking care of you! Life is really a mess sometimes. I wish my lyme burdened son was like you!

You are dealing with too much and need a break, be sure to really care for yourself so you are well enough to help your mom. I'm hoping you are seeing an LLMD?

I wish I could do more than a smile and a virtual gift for all of you, but this all I have...

Wow Bryan, congrats and good for you, that must have been hard. Hope you are feeling well soon,it's been a long road for us and my son's HS grades are not like yours! :(

Welcome to the site - you're gonna love being here! Well, not for the reason you are, but great people reside here!

I'm 24. I didn't have lyme in college but I can understand how hard it is in your early 20s to have lyme. I feel like I become 100 in the span of a few months. It's hard to watch all my friends do all this physical stuff and move and live there lives in ways I can't. I think younger people have a harder time understanding things like this. I certainly would not have before this experience. It can be hard to keep up with your friends. I can't imagine being in college with lyme. All the school work is hard enough, then keeping up physically and socially. If he is looking for other young people with this to talk to, I would be happy to. Also, colleges usually have counseling centers with very affordable or free therapist to talk to. Mine even had walk in hours. I know not everyone is comfortable with that but it can really be helpful to have someone to talk to in person about lyme. That may be helpful.

Yeah, 23, was in college, just stopped going one day, 'cause I couldn't handle it anymore.

I understand, missing out on life. It's sad to say, but I kinda feel like I died at 16. It's no fun.

Anyway, I hope everybody finds a way out.

I am 25 and just had positive lyme titer and kd 23 igg band reactive on the western blot. I am very lonely and could use someone to talk to as well.

Also in the off chance anyone on this thread isn't too far from Philly PA it could be cool to actually meet some people in the same boat...hopefully that's ok to say I'm new to the forums so I'm not sure of all then rules
