Thoughts on Chronic Tonic?

Hi Sydney3601 - I was just coming here to start a new topic on this when I saw your post ;-)

I have been a “read only” member for a few months and haven’t really felt I have had much to share, but I have learned a lot from all of your experiences and advice to one another. Finally, I feel I have something worth telling that may help someone else out there.

My son has had Lyme Disease since the end of October 2014. He did not test positive but a nurse practitioner agreed to put him on doxycycline for 3 weeks on my request. That was in November. I was able to get an appointment with a LLMD on Dec. 23. Ever since then he has been on 2 to 3 antibiotics at a time. He improved from the early, very dark days, in the fall but never enough to do school work or go outside and play. He was a constant fixture on my couch or at the computer playing games.

In March, I ordered Chronic Tonic from Misty Meadows. In a matter of weeks, he has improved so much. He is very close to his former self. Yesterday he hung outside with the neighborhood kids, and he went to the movies. He is feeling that the cognitive losses are beginning to disappear. He has had very little anxiety and depression. His fatigue and muscle weakness have been significantly alleviated.

All this and we have just started the second bottle.

He is still on 3 antibiotics so I can’t say 100% what would have happened without Chronic Tonic, but the antibiotics seemed to be doing very little, if anything. Being a bit stuck in a modern medicine mindset, I am afraid to stop the antibiotics in case they offer any type of complimentary support to the Chronic Tonic.

We had to gradually work up to full dose by starting at 1 tsp, then 2 tsp., and then 1 TBSP because of the herxing.

The herxing was major, especially from a mental aspect. I gave him Nurtramedix Burbur and Pinella to help alleviate. These did not work quickly or in small quantity, and I was going through the expensive little bottles fast. I did some research on the two products to see if they could be acquired at stronger levels. I learned that the Pinella is related to anise seed so I bought a bottle of pure Anise seed oil for $9. I put Olive Oil and 1 - 2 drops of Anise Oil in a capsule. It worked well at bringing down the anxiety although he hates the licorice burps! It didn’t work extremely fast, but the relief usually lasted for the rest of the day.

If he became too anxious at night, I gave a second capsule. If you try this, use caution with the Anise Oil though . . . .it is very strong. Start out at one drop and I wouldn’t go above 2, in my opinion. He continued to use the Burbur drops in water at the same time as the anise oil capsule.

The herxing has stopped for now and I have NOT been giving the Burbur or Anise oil. I just ordered 3 more bottles of the Chronic Tonic ;-)

My son is 12 and eats terribly. This is largely due to food allergies that prevent him from eating nuts, eggs and most fruits and vegetables. But in addition to this he is very self-limiting which causes a very high carb diet. I am putting this information here because I want to address the taste of the Chronic Tonic for those who may consider trying it for your kids. It is not tasty. However, my son, who won’t eat a burger, manages to get the Chronic Tonic down without much fuss.

Also, I want to give a heartfelt hug to all of you Lyme sufferers. I never had any inkling how ugly this disease is. May you all find your source of wellness very soon.

Thank you for you kind thoughts! I would definitely try chronic tonic, but I understand you dilemma. I can't decide if I should ditch the antibiotics or keep going for a few more months.

As for checking to see if the abx you have are effective for Lyme, why not check them out using ILADS treatment guidelines (informahealthcare.com/doi/full/10.1586/14787210.2014.940900)

or Dr. Burrascano's Treatment Guidelines (www.ilads.org/lyme/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf)?

It'll take a little investigative work, but at least then you would know if you have the right abx and if you have enough to take the right dosage for long enough to make an impact.

Not specifically tongue and palate pain - I've had a lot of jaw bone and tooth pain, with only some tongue and palate pain. Neuro Lyme and Bart both attack the nerves though, so not much surprises me.

Revive - I wish I had written down the day I started using it on my son so I could give you a definitive answer. I did figure out that at the full recommended dose of 1 TBSP 2x's daily, we will go through about 2 bottles a month.

LOL Silly Mr. Mike, I was laughing so hard when I read that :) I thought you just found it too challenging to make tea in general!

The links you posted have much more affordable prices than I've been spending. However, I am concerned that if they are not organic they may contain pesticides or insecticides. Do you know anything about their practices? Some of the products $8-$20 cheaper per pound and I'd love to save money but how can we tell if the plants are treated with chemicals?

I don't want to make things worse by trying to save money... Especially for my kids! Thank you so much for posting this :)

Has anyone made Travelers chronic tonic into a tincture? I just purchased all the herbs and plan on making a tincture using tito's vodka, or midnight moon 100 proof moonshine (they are both gluten free, and to me; taste like water...)

I'm in the process of making a houttuynia tincture for bart, and thought I would do the chronic too. I've been doing houttuynia tea, cowden protocol, and an ABX/malaria treatment for Babesia. The most expensive part is the Cowden stuff, so I thought I would make my own tincture to avoid most of the protocol...

I plan to still take/use homemade versions of cilantro, parsley, and zeolite capsules. Also would continue using milk thistle, NAC, Magnesium, and serrapeptase too.

Any advise, or experience out there with this?

Travelers Chronic Tonic Recipe from another Post:

You will need a scale that does both grams and ounces. Do not estimate! This is important as these herbs are strong!

4 ounces of Cat's Claw

2 ounces Echinacea Root - according to Buhner, this needs to be Echinacea Angustfolia.

2 ounces Teasel

2 ounces Eleuthero

2 ounces Red Root

2 ounces Japanese Knotweed

1 ounce St. Johns wort

1 ounce Sweet Annie (also known as Artemisia Annua, Sweet Wormwood)

1/2 ounce Neem leaf

1/4 ounce Oregano

1/4 ounce Thyme

Mix all the herbs together in an air tight container. Store away from heat and light.

To make the tonic the way I do (or you will see a couple of people refer fondly to it as 'hooch'! LOL! Thanks Margaret!! Giggle!):

Take 13 grams of the mixed herbs and add to 4 cups of water that has been brought to a boil and then removed from heat (do NOT boil herbs!). Allow to steep (brew) for 20 minutes - be sure to set a timer so you don't forget. If it goes over that time, throw it out, it will be too strong. Drink 1 cup 4 times a day.

Brew the tonic every day, so that it is fresh and potent. On very warm days, it can be refrigerated without changing anything.

The taste isn't fantastic, basically like oregano one person told me, but once you see symptom improvement, you too will decide that it's more than worth it!
