Have Celiac's, need help finding right meds!!!

Help! I'm trying to treat babesia and am having trouble with meds. Was diagnosed last year with lyme, babs, erlichia and celiac. Was given clindamycin/plaquenil to treat but clinda has gluten in the capsules. It's affecting my celiac. Mepron and Malarone were both denied by my insurance. I'm getting very frustrated by it all. Anyone else have celiac and trying to find the right meds. Any advice would be appreciated.

Gluten in antibiotics? Well, that's weird.

I guess you could look into a natural treatment...

Welcome to our community!! I'm so glad you found us!

I don't know enough about the abx to help, but I edited your post so I could put a title on this thread that would (hopefully) get people's attention that have dealt with this.

According to this list: www.glutenfreedrugs.com/Glutenlist.htm Clindamycin is gluten free when it's from this manufacturer: Greenstone.

So maybe you can do a special request due to your Celiac's diagnosis for Clindamycin from Greenstone??

welcome to the forum!!! I am a Celiac also and the doctor you see or the pharmacist should know product ingredients explain to them your situation and I'm sure they can find a reasonable option....keep your head up!! Things will get better!!! the clouds can't last forever...The sun has to shine soon!!!!

I think the gluten is in the capsule. Thanks for your responses. I see a llmd in SF and don't think they remembered my sensitivity to gluten due to getting the run around from trying to get other meds authorized. Anyone take clinda? I'm also concerned about colitis and the other infection you could get from taking this. Anyone live in the Bay Area/SF area that knows of a homeopathic dr??

Can't you call your LLMD and ask them to change the medication, because you have celiac?

What about a compounding pharmacy? Maybe they could help you? I wonder if it's the filler - they sometimes have starches as fillers (not the capsule itself) - and if the filler is cornstarch, that would be okay.

I didn't see Mepron (Atovaquone) listed.

Is there a number you could call - maybe contact the pharmacist and explain you need to know this...maybe he/she can help you find out?

Is there a complete list of ingredients? Then you'll be able to tell.

I tried the mnfgr and they gave me the list of ingredients but I'm not sure if there's gluten in any of them. Benzo alcohol probably not, flavor ???, poloxamar 188 ??? Saccharine sodium??? Anyone know? Does anyone else on treatment always feeling run down? Immune system shot? I also have 3 yr old triplets which makes this harder.

I think that most of us here feel run down and have a poor immune system!

I would suggest you call your doctor back - and be sure to talk to the doctor, not a nurse or the person at the front desk! - and talk to them about the meds. They have a specific protocol in mind and not following it means altering it, and your doc needs to know.
