I recently got off antibiotics (for the 3rd time, hoping this last time did the trick) and I have been having derm issues. the last time i got off meds and had what i self diagnosed as a demodex mite infestation (itching at night, itchy scalp all day with hair loss and small salt grain sized balls that scrape off scalp, white flakey build up around eye lashes) I treated with tea tree oil in my shampoo, body wash and face wash and it got much better and my hair began to regrow. Now im getting the itchiness and hair loss back again, im doing tea tree oil again ( i never really stopped, just cut back on the amount). Does anyone have any advice for faster hair growth? any similar experiences post treatment?

Also, currently i have a fungus on my big toe nail that is causing a chalky white build-up on the top of the nail and when i did some investigating and scraping yesterday, I noticed that there was a weird gap/ hole near the back of the nail near the cuticle. I could get the top of a nail file behind it/under it and almost lift on the nail. I have an appointment with a dermatologist this week. I share a shower with other people so this could just be a unrelated issue but i am curious if my circulation problems in my feet are causing this, which is something that got worse with my lyme. anyone have a similar experience?

Hi University girl, I would recommend going to a derm so I'm glad you are, to get a diagnosis of your skin condition rather than a "self diagnosis." Are you sure your scalp issues aren't psoriasis? Because it sounds like it could be to me.

Also, if you are still infected with Lyme, you should be seeing a LLMD. Do you need us to help you find one of those?

I have a llmd and i have no issues with him. I dont think it is psoriasis because i dont have flaky skin anywhere. the tiny grainy stuff that i get on my scalp is more like a hardened oil/dirt build up. Its hard to explain it. The tea tree oil really helped the first time so im hoping that upping the amount i use again will have similar results. Hopefully the derm can also give me more insight

You can try using Nizoral Shampoo and letting it remain on the scalp for at least 5 min. before rinsing while waiting to see a dermatologist.

Something else you may need to consider is that it's yeast, rather than a mite infestation. That would also explain what is happening to your toenails.

And a white vinegar soak for 20 minutes once or twice a day for a week or two (depending on how severe it is) would clear up the toe nail issues if it's yeast/fungal.

Just a thought, since you've been in treatment so much.

Sounds like yeast to me as well. Definitely worth mentioning your symptoms to your doctor. Please keep us posted!

I would say yeast/fungal infection as well. Antibiotics not only kill bad bacteria in your body and gut, but also the good ones in your gut, on your skin, in your mouth, sinuses etc.

You need to be using excellent probiotics, both as supplements and as fermented foods to repopulate healthy colonies.

When our daughter was taking combo abx, she developed cradle cap (fungal scalp infection) a couple of times. You can treat it with apple cider vinegar rinse after shampooing (leave the dilute vinegar in your hair). It will smell horrible for 10 minutes or so, but then the smell goes away. Apparently you can also use coconut oil, but that just seemed too messy for me.

If you have fungus or yeast developing on your skin, this means that the lactic acid producing bacteria that are supposed to be there have been eradicated somehow. The acid produced by those bacteria stops the growth of yeast and fungus. This is also why women often develop yeast infections after abx.
