Permanent nerve damage can happen with Lyme, but I've found a lot of my nerves are still healing - and I've been healed for 4 years from my chronic Lyme infection, although I did get reinfected last year and have healed from that as well.
I think it was irresponsible of the LLMD to tell you it's permanent damage, unless you have been healed from Lyme for quite a while. There is no way to know if it's permanent until that time. It can take up to 7 years for nerves to heal.
Is your LLMD ILADS trained? If they don't know much about these infections, I think I would find another doc no matter if they were ILADS trained or not - not all doctors are created equal.
Same thing with the Ear, Eye, throat doc - unless they are Lyme literate and have had their training through ILADS, they don't have a clue about Lyme and it's impacts on the nerves.
Lyme generally attacks the myelin sheath - the protective coating around the nerve, so it gets messages mixed up and the wrong messages sent. This generally heals once the bacterial infection is healed.
I'm sorry, I don't know your details - are you in treatment now? For how long? Are you doing much to detox?
