Starting Mepron and Artemisinin for babesia - any words of wisdom?

Hi everyone,

LLMD is putting me on mepron and artemisinin beginning next week (on top of omnicef, minocin and flagyl as base protocol). They said that this will be the most difficult phase of my treatment and that I'm likely to have rough herx's and side effects.

That of course has me scared, so I'm wondering if anyone has taken mepron and/or artemisinin and if so how you handled it?

Any tips beyond the usual detox routine?

I'm on another med with Arteminisin (didn't do well on Mepron). I'm on my 3rd week and anxiety is through the roof the past few days. Feeling like crap with that and the fatigue. So hard to get anything done. Worst anxiety I ever had. I have Lyme and Bartonella also and taking Teasel, so it party might be the other infections. I hear it gets rough around 3rd week with Babesia treatment. I hope you do well on it!

Anyone know around when you turn the corner and this herx subsides?

i was on mepron/zithromax/artimisae/fish oil and for about 8 weeks i made small improvements but then hit a wall and started regressing through week 11 so while i was better pre-meds it didn't do the trick entirely. note i have lyme and babesia ducani which according to some the ducani strain is a more resistant tougher form to eradicate.

make sure to write down how you feel every day maybe use some kind of scale like 1=worse, 5=great. you can even split it into 2 parts during the day if symptoms get better/worse. this information is critical for your doctor to see how you're progressing/regressing over time.

Wowsa sounds like some rough times. Be nice to your liver! Anti-malarials can be a doozy for that. I'm guessing if you are seeing Dr. J they do regular checks on that. Good luck!

I loved Mepron - it was my favorite. Is that weird to say?
Take it with protein like a tablespoon of peanut butter. Or an avocado is a good option. My daughter who was 3 when she took Mepron took it with peanut butter and I would switch up and do peanut butter in the morning and 1/2 avocado at night.
Mepron should to be taken with fatty foods because it increases the absorption of the medication.

As I recall you should also avoid dairy 2 hours before and after.

I have not tried Mepron yet. I really like Artemisinin. It has helped with my extreme fatigue, congestion and chest pain.

I'm working on adding other herbals for Babesia, including Cryptolepis and Sida. It is so weird how they make me tired when the Artemisinin helps with my fatigue.

I would like to try Mepron or Malarone sometime. My Babs is brutal. It is my worst infection by far. I'm working on formulating an attack plan. I'm even reading Buhner's book on Babesia.

Please let us know how your treatment goes. :)

Also, I have not had any horrible herxing from Artemisinin. It is definitely bringing out my depression more. On the other hand, it helps with my agitation and frustration, which I associate more with Bartonella.

I am curious - what is your dose of artemisinin?

Just be careful please, when you take this herb.
