Hello everyone,

I posted a bit ago how I started Cipro for a UTI yesterday and some symptoms have gone away but A LOT of new ones have started.

I am starting to question now if I have Bartonella. My lyme doc back in PA never thought I did but my dizziness and facial pain have stopped since I started Cipro.

BUT, I have excruciating leg pain. Mostly in my shin bones, feels like shin splints. Also my lower long arm bones have started hurting. I have had increased air hunger too.

The most recent symptom is my feet are itchy.

I am wondering now if maybe I have Bart and this is why, after treating for 2 years, I have plateaued, not getting any better but not getting worse. I only ever treated for Lyme and Babesia.

However, i did drink that Hootnaya tea (spelling is definitely wrong) that Traveler used for Bart and I had no reaction to that.

Just wondering what you guys think. Also, should I keep taking the Cipro? I'm supposed to take 2 for 7 days.

I can't comment on whether or not you should take Cipro. You should ask your LLMD on that. Personally, I don't like Floroquinolones.

The shin and forearm pain is classic Bartonella. Air hunger is frequently Babesia. Other infections can cause air hunger and shortness of breath too. Looking at the big picture helps as to whether it is Babs or something else.

If you have an untreated co-infection, that can definitely prevent healing. Sometimes people might not react to an herb at one time and later have a reaction to the same herb. I think that it partially depends on which infection is dominant. In my opinion, timing of meds is just as important as which meds. A good LLMD will have a strategy for what to treat first.

Well i haven't been treating for almost 7 months. I wasn't getting any better on antibiotics and then I moved to CA from PA and I haven't gone to a lyme doctor out here.

I just went to a walk in clinic yesterday for my UTI because i was in pain. SO i have no one to consult with really about the cipro.

That is a medical call and it is your decision. What is right for you might not be right for another and vice versa. Personally, I can tell you that I won't take Floroquinolones as long as I have have other choices.

I have heard from a number of people who have had problems - tendon rupture or tendon pain that does not seem to go away. They might carry other risks too. You can call the urgent care doctor and discuss any concerns. However, they won't know about Lyme and co-infections. An LLMD can help you because they will know the bigger picture. It's up to you.

It does sound like you might have Bartonella.

Some Bart Symptoms include an itchy rash that looks like streaks, weakness in the legs and leg pain, hot flashes, or a continuously hot feeling, memory problems, headaches, pain in your heels, and cracked skin on the bottom of your feet. Houttuynia does treat Bart, as does a combo of Rifampin and Azithro., if I'm not mistaken.

In my mind, Cipro. is a powerful drug, with potentially dangerous side effects.

Margaret...weakness in legs is a Bart symptom? I never knew that! Ever since I got sick I've had major weakness in my legs especially noticeable when walking down stairs (and I have Bart). That's interesting to hear and could explain it...I don't remember seeing that listed ever. Have you experienced this too?

Hmmm i've never had any weird rashes, no weakness in the legs, i do have hot flashes and although most of the time i'm freezing, my boyfriend always says my skin feels really hot.

Memory problems, yes! I thought that was "lyme brain" though. Like forgetting to turn off my car when i went in the mall lol.

I have no pain in my heels or cracked skin. I do have headaches a lot though.

Sounds like you may have bart, I have a lot of your symptoms... Before I knew I had Lyme I had many uti's... (I just always kept a bottle of d mannose in my cupboard).

I also tried the houttuynia tea, but it took about a week for me to feel anything..maybe 2, can't remember...

Also, I never got bart streaks until I started treating aggressively on the protocol I'm on now..

Weak legs? I'd say Yes.

Well, I have weakness in my legs when I'm going upstairs. It really scared me until someone told me it was Bart.

I tested + for Bart.

The reason I'm mentioning memory problems is bc I drank some Houttuynia Tea day before yesterday, I think it was, and I briefly forgot one of my best friend's names as I was about to introduce her.

I had a horrendous headache as well. My headache "tea" didn't help, so I took Advil.

My cognitive problems and Lyme ADD are bad right now.

Houtt. can cause a nasty, nasty herx, just fyi.

Also fyi, Cipro. gave me C. Diff. about four years ago.

I have tested positive for Bart. and have pretty much the symptoms you mentioned.

Sounds like neuropathy pain.

Yikes now i'm scared. bart is the only co infection that scares the crap out of me.

Although, today I feel GREAT. THis is probably the best i've felt in 2 years. I only took 1 pill of Cipro yesterday not the recommended 2.

It hasn't bothered my stomach at all either which is more than i can say for most of the other antibiotics i've been on.

also, i'm allergic to most other antibiotics so i don't have many options when treating Lyme or any other infections.

I hope I didn't scare you! I know, bart is a tough one....

But, it's better to know what you're dealing with so you can research and find the right treatment, right?

There are so many of us trying to get rid of it...it's hard, but not impossible....

I've had the bad shin bone pain too. I too describei it as "like shin splints",which can be excruciating. Glad I'm not alone ;/
