Hello,

Two days ago I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. It has been a very frightening experience.

My practitioner told me I am in the early stages which is good. I am being treated with antibiotics for two weeks.

I have experienced all the side effects; joint pain, fevers, stiff neck, stiff jaw, rashes and headaches.

I am very frightened because I have heard that Lyme never leaves you and can have chronic effects. I am afraid that the practitioner may miscalculated. I am also a very neurotic person. My fiancé is experiencing the same side effects as me. We have done some research and have found that Lyme can be sexually transmitted. She got a test done today; she has taken antibiotics and is afraid that this will cause her test to be a "false negative" and that since sexually transmitted Lyme isn't widely excepted that she won't get the proper treatment.

I'm reaching out, hoping I will get some support. My heart goes out to anyone who has or is suffering from this. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Pelicanhat, welcome to our community.

Two weeks is not enough time to treat even early stage of lyme disease.

Please find a LLMD (Lyme Literate Dr.) and schedule an appointment...and your fiance should also schedule one.

We can help you find one.

Start a new thread titled: "Looking for a LLMD in/near________" insert your city/town, and State.

Then, enable your email option - so we can send you names of LLMD's. We aren't allowed to post them on the forum, due to privacy reasons.
To enable it: Click on "My Profile" (upper left blue bar), then click on "Edit Profile', then click on "show my email"...then scroll down and click "submit" to save the changes.

Welcome to Healingwell, this is a wonderful and supportive community for you. So good that you caught it early, still I would advise being on antibiotics longer than 2 weeks. Kick it hard in the beginning. Look for an LLMD if you can.

Welcome to our forum... this is the best place for support that i have ever seen... i am very glad that you found us.

Another thread for your consideration (below)... Please feel free to ask any/all questions... until you feel that you are on the right healing path.

*And reduce stress as much as possible...because Lyme reacts to stress.
I know it can be challenging to do under the circumstances...but it is very important to practice. Even look up ways to relieve stress on Youtube as an option.

Did you have the Igenex test? Echoing that 2 wks is not enough. If treated early & thorough, better chances it will not become chronic.

And don't assume that your mate will get this. Genetic makeup & immune systems play a great part.

I would like to thank everyone for such immediate support. Now I know this is the place to be.

I would like to apologize; the treatment is for 3 weeks. Does that make any difference? What is the average treatment time for people in the early stage? I will seek a doctor who is more knowledgeable if a 3 week treatment is not sufficient.

PelicanHat - according to the guidelines I read it is 4-8 weeks symptom free.

So, if you're symptom free in two weeks, you need to treat another 4 weeks minimum past that.

I also wanted to suggest you read the thread at the top of the page titled: "New to Lyme?..Star Here!" - It's full of great information - symptom lists, links, detoxing ideas.

I don't know if you've started to detox yet, but it's really important when you have a lyme infection.
When the bacteria dies-off in the body, it produces endotoxins...which can increase the severity of symptoms. Effective detoxing can help flush these toxins out of the body...and help to alleviate the symptoms.

Some easy, inexpensive detox idease: Drink 8 glasses of water daily; squeeze lemon juice into some of the glasses; take warm epsom salt baths; add hydrogen peroxide to the epsom salt baths; dry brush your skin prior to the baths.

HI PH, the abx can cause a false negative.

In most cases the treatment leads to a die off of bacteria, spirochettes, which can make you feel worse at first. A lot depends on how long you've had it, how long tick was attached etc. For example it took me a solid 6 months to feel better. Every day was a challenge. Your best asset will be a lyme literate medicial physician who understands the complexities of the disease. Good luck to you.
