Does a present on line igg 41 mean I am positive for Lyme disease?

Does anyone know if an M.D. will treat Lyme disease if only line igg 41 is present? I have a ton of symptoms and my Naturopathic doctor ordered the test. I have read that you have to have antibiotics to get rid of it though.

Mabear - Welcome to our community!

First, a LLMD (Lyme Literate MD) - will diagnose you clinically - meaning he/she will look at your history, your symptoms, and lastly will use the tests as a back-up.
Having only one positive band - is still a positive response.

But a non LLMD - (your PCP ) may not treat you at all, as they are not knowledgeable about lyme disease, and often will deny you have it even with a positive Igenex WB.

Regarding - needing antibiotics. Many people choose NOT to go the antibiotic route for treatment. They use an herbal protocol instead.

How long have you had symptoms?
I think you should look for a LLMD and schedule an appointment...there is usually a wait of several weeks to a few months.
In the meantime, you could see your regular Dr. to rule out other things it could be. If, indeed another cause for your symptoms is found, and you are comfortable with that diagnosis, you can always cancel the LLMD appointment. But, one positive band plus symptoms is enough to be diagnosed with lyme disease....

If you have lots of Lyme symptoms, your best bet is seeing an LLMD who can diagnose you based on your symptoms and test you through IGENEX. Regular doctors won't treat you based on a 41 Band.

My Western Blot was negative through Quest. I had no bands. Subsequently, I tested positive for Lyme through IGENEX. My regular doctor would not treat me based on a positive ELISA, which showed Lyme antibodies. I had to see an LLMD who diagnosed and tested me through IGENEX.

You did not say whether or not your test was through IGENEX. If you have not tested through IGENEX, I highly recommend getting the Western Blot through them. Your Naturopath can order the test.

I would also highly recommend that you see an LLMD. It sounds like you're suffering. The sooner you go, the sooner you can start on claiming your life back.

I had symptoms, and unfortunately, my primary was no help at all. At one point I was even pleading with her to get some advice and it was like talking to a brick wall. I find a lot of generalized doctors will only treat something based on hard evidence. With Lyme, you really have to treat based on symptoms since it's such an elusive condition and there's not much affordable conclusive testing. In order to get started on an antibiotic treatment, I had to go to the ER, explain my symptoms, and tell them I thought it may be Lyme. Even then, it was only 200mg / day Doxycycline which was not enough for treatment of Lyme. I didn't get the 400mg / day until the following week when I finally saw an LLMD. I think the others' advice on here is spot on. Definitely find a local LLMD and get an appointment, they will look at your case specifically and take your symptoms seriously.

there are so many different labs that test that it's challenging to get a clear answer. My LLD sent out to two different labs (neither one IGENEX) but my IGM band was 41 and my IGG bands were 41, 58, 66, 93 and the unspecified band 64
I also tested positive for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever but it was a false positive, BUT still an indicator of another bug. A blood smear later showed I have Babesia. I started Doxy back end of May, started Tinidazole end of May, Atovaq in June. I'm going off the Doxy because of the vomiting and starting another med later today (forgot the name of it) but my treatment has really just begun when my symptoms have started back in Sept. 2013. I was misdiagnosed twice and kicked around to a variety of specialists several times. It's been a frustrating journey but going to a LLD was the best move I made....

H mabear70, my child tested positive for band 41 only. I believe many people with lyme here have tested band 41 positive only also.
Our child was quite sick with headache, personality changes, pain on soles of feet and concentration problems. He also developed a severe sinus infection. If youve had symptoms Id seek a LL physician asap. Good luck to you and hope you feel better soon.
