Hello,

So this is going to be TMI, just to warn everyone, but I sort of feel like I have to explain the situation:

I have been doing rectal insufflations for about a week now. My first treatment was only sixty seconds and I kept the ozone level on the lower end of the recommended dose. After my first treatment, upon pulling out the catheter, I noticed that there was blood inside of it. Grosser still, when I expelled the ozone, there was yet more blood. (Sorry for that image).

Since this first treatment I have been paying attention to my bowel movements and have noticed little spots of blood. It's not enough for me to think I'm knocking on death's door, but blood where there shouldn't be is still moderately alarming. I'm not sure if this has been going on for a while, it certainly explains my abdominal pain, I never used to look too close at my poop, so...yeah.

Anyway, I know that I didn't hurt myself while inserting the catheter, and I haven't experienced any more discomfort than I usually feel (my abdomen always feels mildly on fire, but I attribute that to lyme, co-infections, or to years of antibiotic use). I have an appointment with my LLMD on Monday, so I have some awkward symptoms to disclose, but until then...

I was just curious if anyone else has had some similar experience in regards to their lyme symptoms, or any insight on the matter. Thanks!

I've never heard of that, but could the procedure itself be causing it?

Hi Margaret,

Thanks for commenting I really thought my awkward thread would sit there...alone...and awkward forever.

I spoke with my LLMD today about my experience (his office originally did my major autohemotherapy so I knew he was familiar with ozone). He believes that I have ulcerative colitis or crohn's disease. He went on to say that while the rectal insufflation would not have caused the bleeding, ozone does increase blood flow. So, he thinks that my procedure increased the bleeding that was already there.

I can suggest some things you can do to help your digestive system, since I am a C. Diff. survivor.

And yes, I would discontinue the therapy.

I don't think your post was that awkward. The mods are having a hard time keeping up with everybody, since we have SO many new folks!

I would love to hear some tips to help my digestive system! I swear my stomach has felt as though it were on fire for the last year and half.

I had initially stopped treatment after my post here, but my doctor suggests I continue.

I was actually really happy that my doctor had some experience with patients healing their ulcerative colitis with the rectal insufflations. Usually they apply abnormally high doses of ozone which can fully stop the bleeding. Unfortunately, when ozone, in an insufflation, is over 70 ug/l it becomes immunosuppressive instead of immune boosting. So, he's not comfortable recommending that for me, since it wouldn't be beneficial for my Lyme recovery.

My LLMD went on to suggest that I continue with the insufflations at 20 gammas for sixty seconds, once a day, working my way up to two times daily. If my colitis symptoms don't improve within one more week then I should let him know and we'll go from there.

I would fight my doctor on continuing the insufflations if it weren't for the fact that ozone therapy has been the most beneficial treatment I've found so far (at least for me). ABX helped but made me constantly nauseous (not to mention my esophageal erosion which forced me to stop), Cowden protocol didn't help and made me nauseous, supplements sometimes help but would also sometimes make me nauseous. Not to mention the stomach upset from my plethora of other medications, and how much all of the above costs every month.

Three months ago I tried my first ozone IV (major autohemotherapy) and it felt like magic. I herxed like a mo-fo, but after the second treatment I felt better than I've felt in years. After that I decided to research and invest in my own medical grade equipment which I received about a week and a half ago.

I think I would have cried if my LLMD told me I needed to completely stop. I can't continue with the cost of the IV treatments, and I think the machine I have at home is the only thing holding me together at the moment. Anyway, here's to hoping this helps instead of hinders.
