Houttuynia for Bartonella?

Well, I may be different, but not from what I've seen since I've been in the Lyme world. Those that use Houttuynia usually have a pretty big herx. There have been a large handful of people that won't use it because their herx was so intense.

It doesn't matter what any practitioner says about herxing - we all have different sized bacterial and toxins loads as well as other issues/conditions we are dealing with, and when the body is under this much stress from so many directions, I think it's foolish of any practitioner to tell people that herxes aren't likely to happen - quite simply, how could they know?

Now, after saying this, I have great respect for Buhner and his protocols. I think he's a wonderful practitioner and have a lot of respect for him. But, Bartonella can be a huge factor in many Lyme cases - not sure where you read/heard that it "tiny in size" or really what it meant by that.

It's not as clear cut as it sounds for most people, but when you take some type of abx or antimicrobial and you have an increase in current symptoms or new symptoms show up - that's a herx because it's due to the release of toxins from the bacteria dying.

A flare can be routine cycles the bacteria goes through every 3 - 6 weeks. Many times flares aren't felt due to herxing.

One way some are able to tell the difference between a herx and a flare is that a herx can be controlled somewhat with lots of detoxing, a flare isn't controllable like that.

Yes, the herbs can be taken with antibiotics.

I am taking Jap knotweed, sida acuta, CSA, Cryptolepis daily.
I also pulse Rifampin and biaxin.

I am also pulsing Artemisinin for Babesia.

I'm not currently taking Houttunia, but I was before while on antibiotics.
