When can I get young daughter re-tested after anitbiotic treatment?

There isn't an accurate test that can tell you that someone is healed...you just have to go on symptom resolution...

Did your daughter get several tick bites? If so, you need to treat again.

Also, you say she was treated for three weeks? If she had just a bulls eye rash, it should have been 6+ weeks (according to the guidelines).

So, either the new tick bites are giving her symptoms, or the first infection wasn't treated long enough.
(Unless I'm misunderstanding what you wrote?)

If you can't get more antibiotics, there are herbal protocols that you can use. But, you need to act quickly, especially if she has symptoms.

As Girlie said, there is no accurate test that can be done to determine if the infection is gone - it's all about if the symptoms are gone. You absolutely have to treat for more than 3 weeks - if your daughter is no longer on meds - she has to get back into treatment - she still has symptoms, so she still has the infection. Imagine the uproar if doctors started telling pneumonia patients that they had had the required number of days on the abx and even if they still had symptoms, they no long had the infection?!! Somehow they think it's okay to do this to Lyme patients though.

I will literally beg you to get your daughter back into treatments - you see I was first infected with RMSF at the age of 7 and it went on from there because I never got adequate treatments - it literally sucked the life out of me. I did finish high school, but couldn't function well enough to get through college and had to drop out. I couldn't work after the age of 28 yrs old, and I took an extreme risk by getting pregnant before any effective treatments were done. I could have passed this on to my kids!

In my opinion, there are very few larger health risks that a person can take than to not make absolutely sure that they or their child has had complete treatment for these infections. They ruin lives all the time. For me, it took 40 yrs, took my childhood away, took away from the joys of raising my kids and of life in general. I never even had the opportunity to have a career - I was too busy just trying to stay alive. I'm still fighting the effects of having these infections for so long, even though I don't have any of the symptoms of the infections - they created other issues because I was so sick for too long.

So, there is no test available that can reasonably tell if someone still has these infections, she has knee pain now - that's a sign of late stage infection, so her abx dosage likely wasn't enough. The infection is still progressing in her little body. Please if you haven't taken her to see a LLMD, do so now. Get her on the right dosage and for the right amount of time.

Again - there is NO blood test that will tell you that she is past the infection. Please re-read the posts. There is no reason to do any more testing once she is diagnosed.

The only thing it accomplishes is another poke in her arm for blood and expenses for having the test done - it doesn't matter if it comes back with a positive or negative - she has late stage symptoms now, so she needs more treatment.

Sorry, I forgot you were in Canada! There are LLND's that can treat these infections without needing a positive Lyme test.

I have the contact information for LLND's in Uxbridge and in Ontario - why don't you send me an email and I can share that information with you so you can get her in to see a doc that actually knows what they are treating?

Let me get Girlie in on this, as she lives 'up yonder' (LOL!) like you do, in Canada. She will likely know more.

I'm from BC, but I would think it's the same in Ontario. Since the ND's practice outside of our healthcare - you don't get a referral from your GP.

So, you just call and make an appointment. you shouldn't need a positive test - you will just explain that there was a bulls -eye rash, along with the symptoms she has...how long she was initially treated, etc.

You didn't by any chance take a photo of her rash, did you?

So, they may be busy...my LLND books 4 weeks out...but if that's the case...then ask if you can be put on a wait-list and when there's a cancellation you can take that appointment.

You will be paying out of pocket for each visit though...as it's outside of our healthcare coverage.
I have Blue Cross extended health, and I can submit the bills up to $500 per year..and get reimbursed 80%.
So, if you have any extended health, you may be able to do that, too.

The two options in I know of are: One clinic in Uxbridge, and a LLND in Richmond Hill.

Also wanted to let you know that there is LLND's in Alberta and BC - I'm thinking you wouldn't want to fly that far with your little one? They prescribe antibiotics...if you wanted to go that route.

I'm not sure about the Alberta LLND, but mine here in BC - you would fly out once for the initial consult and then after that he does either phone or skype appointments - you could probably get about 7 months before having to go back again. That's what i'm doing...even though I am closer than you.

I know it's tough to be getting on a plane with a 3 year old to fly across the country for one Dr. appointment...but I wanted to give you that option...so you have all the information.
