Hi all!
I am back from my appointment with a LLD. QUITE a different experience from the random urgent care doc reading to me from the Lyme section of the CDC website thats for sure!

The treatment plan he laid out for me sounds a little hardcore though and its making me a little nervous. I mean, I want to be aggressive to make sure the Lyme is wiped out, but Ive never heard of anyone taking this many antibiotics (and one he said was originally used as an anti-malaria drug?!) He says he has treated over 1,000 people with lyme over the past 8 years. He also said testing would be pointless for me right now because Im so newly infected, and if the antibiotics work quickly I may never develop enough antibodies to trigger a positive on the tests.

His plan is for me to me on 3 different oral antibiotics at the same time for 8 weeks. Im currently on 100mg of doxy 2x/day (thank you CDC) which he says will do absolutely nothing.

The abx are zithromax, omnicef and plaquinil. He says these three will kill the bacteria in all 3 of its firms (cyst, with a cell wall and without a cell wall).

He also gave me probiotics (lots) and something he described as "good" yeast (saccharomyces)

Has anyone been on anything similar? I am most likely very newly infected (rash was first noticed exactly 1 week ago).

I believe Plaquenil is the anti-malaria drug used for cyst form of lyme.

All three you mention are good lyme antibiotics.

I hope you start one at a time...and not all three at once..if you have a reaction you want to know what's causing it.

Forgot to mention - make sure you are detoxing...not just one detox, but many...
Don't mean to nag, but it's really important.

Thanks Girlie. Yes he did say to start them one at a time (the zithro first) for three days and then slowly add in each of the others (at lower doses first and then finally get up to the point of taking each med twice a day with the probiotics in between (2 hrs away from any antibiotic). I asked him about detoxing and he mentioned the baths with some epsom salts off-handedly but said I shouldn't experience any herxing. But I intend to follow some of the detoxing recommendations here anyway. It cant hurt, and hopefully it helps!

That's a real good start. Did he discuss any of the following:

1. Drink plenty of water. Try to get up to 8 to 10 glasses/day, and mix fresh lemon juice in with some glasses. Maybe 1/2 lemon per glass.

2. Liver Support - Most here take Milk Thistle

3. Magnesium - Dr B recommends Mag-Tab SR

4. Low carb diet - very important to control Candida overgrowth.

The rest of list can get real long, but this should help you get started on the right foot.

JLM, this is great news for you! What a difference from a couple of days ago!

Sounds like your doc is being very thorough to make sure you get all the bugs at every form of their life cycle. Yes, it's totally normal to take 3 abx together--although most of us have to wait months before a doc will give us 3 at once. Lucky you!

Be sure you do let your body get used to each one before upping the dose or adding the next one, as they can be pretty harsh on your system. I know you said those were your instructions--just being a little nag too, I guess. :-) It's also great he prescribed the other healthy supports such as the probiotics & saccharo.

The only thing I'm surprised your doctor said is that you won't herx. Maybe he thinks that because you may not have tons of bugs yet to kill off so they won't create the toxin load that many of us experience, thus the herx? Or maybe because you are taking all of this for 8 weeks, which is right around the point of the full life cycle? Hmmmm, interesting. I didn't herx until 5 weeks into my first treatment. Then it was 12 rough days of yuck. I hope you really can avoid it somehow. As was said above, detox anyway, just to be safe! Best of luck to you and keep us posted, please!

I think the plaquenil makes the body more alkaline so the abx can penetrate better. I know i've read other posts about it somewhere...

Thanks guys! Yes, I will definitely detox anyway. I mean, with all I'm learning I feel like I should have been doing some of these detox things even BEFORE I got lyme. I was really surprised he kind of blew off my detox question, since he also focuses on nutrition to help people get off meds (blood pressure, etc) so he obviously sees the power of diet, exercise, etc in healing so I kind of assumed he would include that in my treatment. But he didn't even mention drinking more water so that was odd.

And thanks for the reminder mauihawaii! All "nagging" is welcome!! lol I am actually allergic to penicillin, so he also said to be EXTRA careful and sloooowly add the omnicef since it's related to penicillin.

Very few doctors actually recognize that their patients are helped by detoxing, and won't recognize the potential of herxing - maybe it's to not scare them??? I don't know, but I find it incredibly irritating and quite frankly dangerous. A severe herx (which no one can predict how bad the first herxes will be) can be life threatening. We've had a handful of people on here that have been admitted to the hospital due to a severe herx.

I'm glad you have seen your LLMD and that you will be starting treatments!! I'm even happier to know that you see the dangers of not detoxing and will follow what is right for you.

Your doctor sounds like my doctor and mine is excellent. Aggressively going after the lyme in all 3 forms is good. The only thing I would add is a biofilm protocol that will bust up any of them so the abx can do the work. Note I was on Zithro, Omnicef and Mepron to attack both Babesia and Lyme. Let us know how you progress.

Thats actually good to hear Rikky. Im glad those abx also work on babesia. My lld isn't testing me for co-infections - he said the tests are worse than the lyme tests and since Im so newly infected nothing would show up anyway. At least this way if I happen to also have babesia it's getting hit too. And I will have to search around here for info on biofilm protocols. That makes a lot of sense. Thank you!
