What are yall's thoughts on not treating. As bad as my symptoms seem to me, I can still function. I still manage to do what has to be done. This all seems extremely scary for someone who has never taken more than a 5 day zpack. And that was hard to remember to take. I never even took birth control. Multiple abx for months on end, herking?, pulsing. Changing meds, detoxing, it is very overwhelming to say the least. Do most of you still work, play ? I have some pretty funky and sometimes scary symptoms, and have some pretty bad days,but does the treatment outweigh the disease? Does any get well in s relatively short time (a yr maybe) and go back to their life being normal?

melimom - If you don't treat, you will allow the infection to grow...and eventually you will most likely continue to get worse, making the infection all the harder to treat.

I never took meds either...until now...

I don't work...but if I can get rid of a couple more symptoms...I will be able to go back to part-time.

I do play sometimes...not as hard as I used to, but I do get out and have some good times.

I would not consider leaving it as is...as I don't want my worst days to become my everydays.

As overwhelming as it all sounds, you don't really have a choice - at least not if you want to continue to be able to really live your life. What I was diminished to was not a life, but fighting for survival, simply because I was untreated for too many years.

Things never get better with Lyme and company, except for maybe short spurts - but then the symptoms come rushing back in and continue to get worse - year, after year, after year...... I missed out on many, many things in life - including the birth of 2 of my grandsons (cry) simply because I knew that if I tried to make the 2 hour trip down and back in one day, I'd be bed ridden for a week.

Now, however, I actually have a life! Although I am healing from severe adrenal fatigue and thyroid issues, I can run and play with my grandsons, and not be bed ridden when the newest grandson (4 months) is up all night when they come to visit! I'm now the first one up in the mornings and get to even watch the grandson's for a bit while everyone else gets some extra rest!! It's a real special time for me and those boys. I'm so glad that I don't have to miss out on that stuff any more.

Yeah, you should treat, remembering you're in charge of what goes in your body.

I made the mistake of not treating early enough. I knew something was wrong but I could still function. Like you I had bad days, but it was brief and manageable.

Then what happened is every time I got sick again it was worse. Last September I started having a flare and I layed down way earlier than usual. And I still haven't got back up. I thought it woukd just be a few bad days like it always was. I was so wrong.. It's been almost a year of non stop bad days. I can't help but consider it may have never got to this point had I treated earlier..

I'd encourage you to nip it in the bud. This illness can destroy your entire life. It's not worth the gamble. Of course you could be OK- but I don't think that happens very often.

Let us know what you decide! I'm pretty sure every single person here will say the same- TREAT IT!!!!

There are other modes of treatment as well. It doesn't have to be antibiotics. Research around and ask others what they do and maybe you can find something you're more comfortable with. Herbs work great!

Im not so scared of the "treatment" as I am the schedule. I am a full time nurse and I'm in school fulltime. With a fulltime 8 y/o princess. And a fulltime husband. And all the things that go along with that. I found the Lyme by going to a Dr about my complete adrenal exhaustion. ( can't for the life of me figure out why thy are caput lol) and she said my symptoms all sounded like classic Lyme. A low CD 57 and igenex results in my previous post, and here I am. I NEVER suspected I had lyme. I'm really am glad I found this forum. I have a feeling I'm going to need call the help I can get.

Treatment doesn't need to be expensive. A lot of abx are actually quite cheap (Cipro/Doxy/Amox)... They all kill spirochetes ...some better then others... I would treat... but its your body.

I am just newly diagnosed with early lyme and I am planning to treat and treat hard! :) I have symptoms like tiredness, sore joints, stiff neck, etc - nothing severe - but to me those are just the bacteria stretching its legs a little and getting all nice and cozy in my body. Once it is, it will settle in for a big 'ol party at my expense and I want to make sure to boot it out before that happens. I have heard and read enough stories to realize what this disease can do to a person, and believe me if you think TREATING will be hard to fit into your schedule, imagine how hard being so sick you are incapacitated would be! Of course, the choice of what we do with our own bodies and our own healthcare is always up to us. My choice is to treat. The way I see it, I can only continue to be there for my family in the future, if I take a little time for myself right now to get healthy. If you need to hit pause on something in your life, or ask for more help than you are used to during your treatment, I would encourage you to do whatever it takes to make your healing easier.

Please treat. There are other protocols than abx. I am one of the unlucky ones that didn't have a clue about lyme and have had strange symptons throughout my life that finally came to a head a year ago with ALS type symptoms, you don't want to get that bad.
Good thing is you know what is happening and as I have been told by some great people here, you have a whole forum here to help you and guide you.

Thank you both. I so appreciate your kind words. It was a very long and scary road, but part of the reason why I stick around - besides pestering you all to detox (LOL!) - is to let people know that it doesn't matter how long you have been infected, there's hope of healing, and that herbs really can be very highly successful in healing these infections!!!
