Wow, I really have Lyme? (Igenex result help!)

My results came back today. I have to say I'm a little shocked, and really confused? I have felt sick for about two years, so how is it possible that the IGM is positive but the IGG is negative? Also, most of my symptoms are now neurological, doesn't that mean it would have to be in my system for 6+ months?

If someone could answer that and tell me if this could be a false positive based on results, I would really appreciate it. I'm really surprised its even positive to begin with, though I have all the symptoms like crazy.

-How can an IGM be positive with nuero symptoms but negative IGG when I've had it for a while?
- From the MANY indeterminate bands below, does it really look positive?
- CAN I CELEBRATE KNOWING IM ACTUALLY NOT INSANE NOW AND RUB IT IN MY DOCTORS FACE?

Skipped heartbeats
EXTREME fatigue
Brain fog
Weight loss
Ear Pain
Motion sickness (spinning makes me throw up)

Traveler, thank you so much! My doctor was in SHOCK. "Uh, this is, very interesting and unexpected". Yeah, Utah as a whole will just laugh at you if you even mention lyme.

I've read what those bands mean, but if you could break them down any more if you have more knowledge about them I would appreciate it very much.

LLJFaith, you too have Lyme specific bands and there's only one way for those to show up - you have to have the Lyme bacteria in your body for it to make those antibodies!!

An IgM result means that you have an active infection. It once was thought to mean an 'early' infection, but has since been revised. IgG means that the infection is at a later stage. The more +'s you have beside a number, the stronger the reaction.


IND means indeterminate - not negative, but not quite strong enough to be "fully positive". But it means that you reacted on those bands and should be considered, especially when they are Lyme specific bands.


A "Lyme specific band" means specific for Borrelia Burgdorferi, sensu stricto - Lyme disease in the strictest sense. There is only one on the over 300 known strains of Lyme that is considered Bb, ss. Nothing else will turn a Lyme specific band positive other than Lyme disease.


Bands 18 & 41 (whether in IgM or IgG) are indicative of the tail of the bacteria, which can cross react with other Spirochetal bacteria such as Relapsing Fever, Pintas and Yaws, and Syphilis. ------------------------------------------------------------

So the other bands that you tested positive or IND for are:
23- 25 - Band 25 indicates OspC (Outer Surface Protein "C") and is specific for Lyme.

Band 31 indicates OspA (Outer Surface Protein "A") and is specific for Lyme.

Band 34 indicates OspB (outer Surface Protein "B") and is specific to Lyme.

Band 39 indicates BmpA (Bacterial Membrane Protein "A") and is specific to Lyme.

Band 83 indicates a high molecular mass protein that is specific to Lyme.

Band 93 indicates an immunodominant protoplasmic cylinder antigen that is associated with the flagellum that is specific to Lyme disease.

I'd bet that I'm not the only one who understands you being happy to being diagnosed with Lyme - at least you now know what's been plaguing you all this time, and a plan of attack can begin!!!

Of course I don't mind!! While I didn't use them, I usually suggest Buhner's protocols (buhnerhealinglyme.com/the-protocols/) as they are well laid out, lots of people here use them (so there's lots of help!) and there are several places where you can also get more help from those that are using/have used his protocols. Buhner has books that you can buy and read as well - they can be found on his website.

What I used for Lyme actually has 11 herbs in it - some for treating the infection and some for the other issues that usually come along with it. Just in case you are interested in that, here are a couple of links. This first one is how I used the herbs:
