Doxy causing anxiety and depression....

My LLMD really wants me on IV doxy. I have declined and insisted on IV rocephin because when I took oral doxy, it really messed with my head. It triggered severe anxiety and depression.

My LLMD said it was a head herx, but I don't buy that! I think it was a nasty side effect. After googling "doxy and depression", or "doxy and anxiety", I found lots of stories, like these....

All of these suffering people could not possibly have undiagnosed Lyme and be herxing. I just don't buy it. My doctor insists that anxiety and depression are NOT s/e of doxy. But, tell that to the 2 moms mentioned in the link above who lost their teenage sons to suicide after taking doxy for acne!!!

Has anyone here had a bad reaction to doxy?

LLMD told me I have to endure it in order to get better. I can't imagine going through that again. Maybe the IV doxy won't be as bad as the oral?

Well before I knew any better, my oldest son took doxy for acne. It wasn't until you mentioned the side effects that I remembered the doctor telling us to be on the lookout for mental symptoms.

Not every med is right for everyone.

Now, if you have anxiety and/or depression with other meds, then I think it's safe to say it's a herx.

Still, why invite any more trouble?

fwiw, my stomach just couldn't handle doxy (even when taken with food) and my LLMD switched me over to Doryx.

I felt terrible on doxy and immediately stopped it my llmd is not taking it i am lol

I would find a different doctor if they kept insisting I absolutely had to use one specific med. I had a doc do that to me while I was pregnant with my first full term pregnancy. I'm very highly allergic to penicillin and that was the only abx this doc would write a script for me for a really bad sinus infection - I tore up the prescription and threw it in his face, walked out and declared (loudly) that I needed to see a doctor that wouldn't try to actively kill me. Funny how I got a new doctor right away when I was 6 months pregnant (& looked 8 months pregnant).

Remember that these doctors work for us. They don't get to dictate what we do, they are there to make suggestions and direct us, not insist that we do as they say. They aren't our parents or landlords.

I took Doxy for a month but never noticed anything mental...but then again i think i have adhd (self diagnosis) so i've always had mental issues :) The thing i hated about it was the nausea...if not taken right after (3 minutes says one doc) a good sized meal..its brutal...like standing around for 45 minutes wondering if you're going to hurl or not. I think hyclate is worse on the stomach..i 1st used monohydrate and didn't notice much stomach issues.

Utahgal - so sorry you're dealing with this! It's just not right that your LLMD is insisting on that med...and now you feel 'stuck' - definitely not what you need at this point!

I hope he changes his attitude and is more understanding!

And what about how Doxy pushes the bacteria into it cyst form and into biofilms? Unless it's a super early infection, Doxy really isn't the best abx for Lyme anyway.
