My last 2 tests came up as being old lyme. What does that mean? First test was 1.0 taken last year and the second test was 2.4 taken this year. What does old lyme mean?

I don't know what test for lyme you had done, but with the Western Blot, there is an IgM and IgG
Igm means 'active' infection, and IgG means older infection, but the IgG can still be active.

If you are positive and the Dr. is telling you it's an 'old' infection...but you have symptoms then it is an 'active' infection and needs treatment.

The test that she did couldn't tell us if it was an old infection but it did come back active. I was put on 28 treatment of doxy. I've been off antibiotics for a week and my legs and knees are still hurting. Still have joint pain, ears are still very sensitive, very tired and weak. What do I do now? Is there a test out there to see if I still have lyme?

Unfortunately there isn't a test to tell when the lyme is no longer active.

Treatment must continue until there are no symptoms left PLUS 4-8 weeks -

Your Dr. should have continued treatment, not stopped since you were still symptomatic.

I suggest you find a LLMD and schedule an appointment. He/she will know how to treat you effectively.

Thank you. I don't have a problem finding a Lyme specialists in my area. I live in southern connecticut. about 10 minutes from Lyme. Does doxy kill confections?

I believe doxy takes care of ehrlichia (sp?) and anaplasma co-infections, but not bartonella or babesia.

For bartonella - I would say the most often used antibiotic is Rifampin, paired with either a tetracycline (minocycline or doxycycline) or a macrolide (zithromax, or biaxin).

Another treatment for bartonella is using one of the flouroquinolones (eg Levaquin or cipro) paired with minocycline or doxycycline.

And still another treatment for bart is biaxin combined with Bactrim DS.

Sometimes Dr.'s will treat bartonella with a tetracycline and a macrolide - so doxycycline and zithromax.

For Babesia - an anti-malarial is used - mepron or malarone paired with biaxin, zithro, doxy or minocycline.

I haven't covered all the antibiotic treatments - but that gives you some ideas...
