Thanks all for the great recos. - cd - question for you. I noted you have had pn symptoms when herxing. Have you had any luck treating for those...that is by far my most distressing symptom as it causes pain, burning and disorientation sometimes. I also have had non-stop low level tinnitus which is driving me absolutely nuts!!!
Actually, I have PN symptoms as my baseline and more of them in different forms when herxing lol
I empathize with the tinnitus - I've dealt with that since I was a teenager and decades before Lyme. In my case, it was due to hearing loss and wearing hearing aids provides relief from it (but there's still a bit of background "noise" :)
My PN symptoms have improved over time and I cannot tell you exactly what gets the credit because I continually added to my protocol in hopes of relief.
I researched peripheral neuropathy treatment and combined info from several resources.
As things turned out, I was already taking many of the recommended supplements before my Lyme Dx but needed to increase the doses.
Others I had started taking right after my Dx when I decided (with my LLMD's support) to follow Dr. Burrascano's supplement recommendations in his Diagnostic Hints & Treatment Guidelines which can be found starting on page 27:
www.lymenet.org/BurrGuide200810.pdfAnyway....here's what I've been taking for awhile that helps with PN symptoms:
magnesium
CoQ10
acetyl-l-carnitine
ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid - "R" form which is more bioavailable)
Curcumin
Vit C
Methyl B12 and activated B-complex
NAC (N-acetyl cysteine)
fish oil and flaxseed oil
I recently added Stephania root tincture per Buhner's recommendation in his Lyme book. That provided the most noticeable improvements.
I just started Planetary Herbals Myelin Sheath Support as recommended by other members on here. Apparently, MS patients report great results with it. It's hard to describe how I feel after taking it but, it's almost like my nerves have calmed down a bit.
Besides Buhner's books, I found the following sites helpful:
www.dynamicchiropractic.com/mpacms/dc/article.php?id=56879/www.caring.com/articles/peripheral-neuropathy-treating-it-the-natural-waywww.naturalnews.com/029779_peripheral_neuropathy_remedies.htmlAs with all things, I suggest that you make only one change at a time and wait at lest 4-7 days before making another. This way, you can gauge your response.
Please know that both NAC and Curcumin have been shown to break biofilm apart. Some people herx after starting these.
I honestly did not notice a difference in my symptoms until further along in treatment and definitely after the addition of Stephania.
Nerves take a looonnng time to heal (as much as 7 years) so, it's possible I set the groundwork for healing with my earlier supplement choices and Stephania helped move things along.
