Is heat intolerance common with Lyme?

I have not yet been diagnosed officially with Lyme. But I've been going to assorted docs for the past five years trying to figure this out. My 'clinical' diagnosis is clearly Lyme (in my opinion).

Anyway, my problems started about five years ago, and one of the big issues with me is heat intolerance. Just curious if this is a typical Lyme symptom????

Yes!
I have any temperature change intolerance. I'm in Ca and when its more than 90 degrees, I feel like I'm going to die. When it's less than 75, I'm wrapped up in a blanket. I'm constantly fighting with my husband over the thermostat control. He just doesn't get it of course.

The heat intolerance is pretty significant though! You're not alone. I really hope you get to an LLMD soon.

Yup. And cold intolerance, too. Getting chilled or overheated wipes me out for a couple days...

Well, here's my symptoms, in general:


Constant - Neck creeks and cracks, neck stiffness, neck pain
OFTEN - Exaggerated intolerance of heat/cold
Often - Headache (had CAT scan a couple of years ago to rule out tumor)
Often - Fatigue, tiredness, poor stamina
Often - Tingling, numbness, burning or stabbing sensations, shooting pains
Often - Irritable bladder or bladder dysfunction (I have BPH and prostatitis)
Often - Stiffness of the joints, neck, or back
Often - Exaggerated symptoms or worse hangover from alcohol
Sometimes - Sore throat
Sometimes -Testicular pain/pelvic pain
Sometimes - Unexplained fevers, sweats, chills, or flushing
Sometimes - Loss of libido
Sometimes - Upset stomach
Sometimes -Change in bowel function-constipation, diarrhea (urgency)
Sometimes - Chest pain or rib soreness
Sometimes - Shortness of breath, cough
Sometimes - Heart palpitations, pulse skips, heart block
Sometimes - Joint pain or swelling (knee)
Sometimes - Muscle pain or cramps
Sometimes - Twitching of the face or other muscles
Sometimes - Facial paralysis (Bell's Palsy) - (minor – left side)
Sometimes - Eyes/Vision: double, blurry, increased floaters, light sensitivity
Sometimes - Ears/Hearing: buzzing, ringing, ear pain, sound sensitivity
Sometimes - lncreased motion sickness, vertigo, poor balance
Sometimes - Lightheadedness, wooziness
Sometimes - Confusion, difficulty in thinking
Sometimes - Difficulty with concentration, reading
Sometimes - Forgetfulness, poor short term memory
Sometimes - Pain in soles of feet (in A.M.)
Sometimes - Difficulty with speech or writing
Sometimes - Mood swings, irritability, depression
None ---Disturbed sleep-too much, too little, early awakening
None ---Tremor
None ---Unexplained weight change--loss or gain
None ---Unexplained hair loss
Unsure ---Swollen glands
N/A ---Any history of a heart murmur or valve prolapse?
None ---Disorientation: getting lost, going to wrong places

Now, I'm not an LLMD, but you have the majority of the same symptoms I have or had!!!! And I'm IGeneX and CDC Lyme positive. What does that tell ya?

You reminded me of a funny situation I had with the sensitivity to alcohol. I was already having severe dizziness and vertigo that would come and go every other day like someone was flipping the light switch. It was on a good, non dizzy, day that I had maybe a half of a beer. I got so off balance, well majorly drunk and feeling like you do right before you pass out. All blurry and slurred speech. But didn't pass out. Just stayed that way for a while. It was the weirdest physical and mental sensation Ive ever felt!!! And without the hangover!! wooohooo. LOL

Anyway, when do you see the LLMD?

BTW. your symptoms will probably rotate around for the next couple of years. Example: I didn't have sole pain til about 2 yr mark in treatment, recently started having stabbing face pains; didn't have that before. In the beginning, my significant symptoms were mostly neuro and fatigue, now there more physical and still fatigue.

I suffered from the heat and cold intolerance for many years. If the ambient temp wasn't between 74 - 80 I was miserable! The heat would make me very dizzy, very nauseous, and very weak and I would get very white, that always made a few people very nervous.

When the room temp went below about 74 degrees, I was putting on a sweat jacket and socks. If it got below 72, I was donning another sweat shirt and long underwear and another pair of socks! Made it a little difficult to move around easily, but I was cold!

Has everyone checked their 'core temp'? It's really easy to find out what your core temp is and it's a good thing to know. To find your core temp., just check your temp every morning before getting out of bed. Write it down and do this for a full week. You will then know what your core temp is. A lot of docs won't recognize this but it make it no less valid.

I remember driving down the road one day while on a long distance drive, and quite literally, from my waist up I was sweatin' to beat the band!! While from the waist down I had to have a heavy blanket on, as I was so cold I was shivering - but only from the waist down! That happened two days in a row and then never again. I think that was about the weirdest thing I have gone through with my illness!

Yes, that is a typical Lyme Symptom.
